I commend you for these excellent tutorials! I have been an animator in the industry for nearly 4 years now and have never had to use the biped system until recently, it almost feels like im completely new to animation when using it, your tutorials have helped a great deal! it goes without saying i pretty much hate using it! If you have any updated tips and tricks it would be great to know, Thanks!

+Adam Bryant No problem glad it could help! Unfortunately I've fallen away from character animation and I've focused more on modeling. A tip/trick I did pick up by the time I started to shy away from animation, was switch to CAT over Biped (if your workflow allows it). Way more powerful and easier to use IMO.
@madebymahmood

How is CAT more powerful? Can you tell some differences in both systems? What does CAT has to offer what biped doesn't?

@madebymahmood
@madebymahmood 2 жыл бұрын
@@JaySamurai79 I found the biped to be more powerful, For example, IK-FK has almost no distinction in BIPED and same bones can be used both as ik and fk.

@@madebymahmood Really appreciate your reply back, I know its been about 4yrs since your comment. Yeah I think I'll stick to biped. Thanks again.

Just forget about my earlier question it was stupid, I acted too quickly not like you would care anyway, but I figured out that max has very not intuitive system of selecting functions on interface, well yeah you just click at stuff but it rarely gets highlited or anything to suggest that its right in use. Well thanks for your effort at making this tutorial there are really people that care.

I thought this tutorial would help me with the walk cycle tutorial in the 3ds max tutorials. However from the max tutorial you are advised to use keyframing to animate if you are going to use the Planted, Slide and Set Free. This is because if you use Auto Key you get the undesirable results like the legs still sliding even after you thought you had fixed them by copying and pasting one pose.

Very nice tut but one thing you should do is explain the commands you use like when you pass on the move command .... the menu is not quite visible in large mode and there is a lot to manipulate to follow the steps wile just mentioning the commands makes it easier. Anyway nice tutorial and thanks alot.

+Austin Farr No problem man. I'm assuming you found what you were looking for? I'm not 100% sure which comment(s) to disregard but if you need help finding the Key Info menu, make sure you have Biped bone selected when you click on the motion tab. If you don't have a part of the Biped selected, the sub menus wont show up

A big mistake I see ALOT of animators doing, is only animating the keyframes. If you animate in 2D like flash, you need to learn how to animate frame by frame. First you do the keyframes then you add the in-betweens yourself instead of letting the program do it. Because the program makes them evenly spaced, so it looks robotic. So you They need to learn to do it properly.

Hello I have a question. Is it possible to apply a rig on my character that has a separate head and body mesh? Uhm I detached the head of my character so that I can texture it more nicely.

You also got the Planted Key and Slide Key confused. Could you possible make another tutorial without the errors. I think you will find you really cant use the Auto Key but you will also find you have to remember to add the right key frame for animating the feet when they leave or touch the ground. If you can do that then I might offer to pay to learn more from you on Skpe

Is it possible to export these animations as fbx into unity, and attach them to my player? Or do i have to attach my player to biped in 3ds max and then animate and then export? Thanks

Hi, I downloaded an animated 3D model and opened the .obj in 3DS Max. But when loaded there were no animations just the model without textures. What other file should I load to have the textures and animations? The zip came with a bunch of files and don't know which one to use.

is there something I can do for custom bips to get access to key-info menu etc.? I have file with some bip already in it, I assigned controller for it but cant most of the settings you use, its on 2013 ver. I really liked your guidance and I would be grateful for assistance at it. : )

Few questions: Are Biped bones and the animations that go with it the same as just setting up a system your self when it comes to exporting to a game engine like Unity, UDK etc? Or I guess you could say is this game engine compatible? I also notice you didnt weight anything to a model; are there any special tasks needed to add a Biped setup to a mesh?
@DarkSaintStudios
@DarkSaintStudios 10 жыл бұрын
Using the Biped system is game friendly if your exporting into a format such as .fbx, which will convert the biped bones into the standard bones that game engines (and other 3d software) recognize. Setting up the biped to be skinned requires no extra work to the mesh or biped itself other than properly lining up the bones to the mesh. It is essentially the same requirements if you were to use standard bones or a system like CAT.

Man, how do I separate position and rotation to X/Y/Z? It's so fucking annoying when I rotate only by one axis it creates keyframes for other axis too, and I can't move one without moving others. I can make better animation with bones (because keyframes are separate here) but I can't make anything good with biped.
