man you are a genius, the newer e46s have only one single cord and if it stretch or breaks you can't use the interior nor the exterior handle!! it's insane, in my coupe I had to pop the door card from the inside breaking all the clips off and then with a long screwdriver I had to force the actuator to unlock my god

Very well presented. I just got done removing the front passenger door panel on a 2001 E38 that won't open from the inside or outside. More of a brute force then finesse thing but there is more room to play at the front. Same thing though as I started from the top after removing door handle. The air bag was right in the way so I moved it but no joy playing with the various moving pieces yet. The door did become stuck open first before I got it to close and then it has been closed ever since.

Thank you for the tips and tricks. I removed the door panel to replace the widow motor and assembly. I cannot open the door from inside my Bimmer or from the outside. I believe the same steps apply (for the most part) for the front passenger door. LOL I also had to order a seat belt for the front passenger because my dog ate the belt. I took my mom's dog for a ride, before reaching my destination, I had stopped at Dunkin Donuts. I got out of the car and then used the fob to lock the doors but I forgot to disable the motion sensor. What I mean by disabling the motion sensor, having to click the lock button a second time within 30 seconds of activating the alarm. By doing so, it will disable the Bimmer's tilt sensors and cabin motion sensors. But, sure enough about 30 seconds later of locking the doors, the alarm was set off by my mom's dog. The alarm is every loud, and I am glad, but my mom's dog isn't as the sound scared him and he became nervous and then he Chewed right through the front passenger seat belt.

Only thing I can suggest, is use the same logic as the rear door. Hardest part is getting that panel to loosen up at first.

@@SergeyPip Thank you sir, well, all I done is take out the lower outer trim line, lowered the window and with a long wire with a hook triggered the mechanism that is outright visible , then took a grease brush and nicely put all around there and works like a charm and MUCH quitter while door closing

Was removing everything necessary in the end or could I do the same without pulling all apart, like could I just pull the door handle out the inside and spray down?

I would say to remove it. Just so you don't damage or break anything.

Captain Falls a Lot ATP, PIC I did some googling and then I came up with an improvized fix, now only the driver's door won't open but at least I can open it from the inside, the remaining 3 doors open and close normally so I'd call that a success considering it was a free fix

After I have seen the video I went at the car and done it for both back doors in no time. I just have to figure out why I cannot open the doors from outside.

Now for those of us with the shades, the shade unit has 2 screws, 1 screw on the left and 2nd screw on the right of the door. To access the screws you must carefully remove the wood trim of the sill. Now for the front doors, there is a screw inside the ven of the door. You MUST OPEN THE DOOR look into the vent and you'll well a Philps screw.

Having same issue with my driver door on e46 I'm rebuilding.. locking mechanism locks and unlocks, but acuator appears stuck. Panel was already off. Any suggestions from any and all viewing..

If you can reach in there with some WD40, I would try that. It seems like it may have rusted or got really stuck that you aren't able to get it to move with a screw driver. If that doesn't work, see if you can unscrew the actuator it self to remove it.
