I like this technique. I will try it today. And I like that your BBS last 2-3 days - which is enough to start another batch in different container. How do you keep hatchery water warm enough? My room temp is usually 64-68 degrees. I am going to experiment - one container just as you show & one container on heat pad (low temp) I have used the bottle method with air tube & heat lamp. But real pain & harvesting is messy. THANKS FOR SHARING !

@@MicroWorld7 I was surprised with the results of my BBS hatching experiment. YOUR BBS HATCHING TECHNIQUE WORKS - no heat & no air tube. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING! As I mentioned, I keep my house cooler then most & was concerned my house temp was too cold to hatch BBS without heat. I set up 2 identical containers. Each had 1¼ cup of water - to bring level to 1”. I made the rings out of a water bottle. I added ¼ tsp sea salt & BBS eggs. Container #1 was placed on the counter. Container #2 was placed near #1 but on heat pad. Both received same indirect room light during the day & no light at night. At 18 hours #2 had hatched many eggs while #1 had hardly any. At 24 hrs each container had quite a few hatched BBS - but #2 had more. At 40 hrs most of the eggs in container #1 were hatched & fed to the guppies. Almost all of the BBS in container #2 were dead. On my next try I plan to increase the salt to ½ tsp, NO heat pad, but maybe more light to see if I get better hatch.

It depends on how you stored the eggs. I bought a half of pound of BBS eggs in 2014 or 2015 and still using them with a superb hatch rate. These were premium grade eggs with expected hatch rate of 90% from brine shrimp direct. If you kept yours in the freezer you should be good.

@MicroWorld74 жыл бұрын
i use water only from bottle... the circle thing have a gap on the bottom to allow the brine shrimps to escape it, but the eggs shels will float trapped in it avoiding to have a mess in the container, it make easy to separate the shrimps from the eggs shels

Can you float a plastic ring in a big mason Jar to keep the eggs from seperating then scoops the out after attracting them to the light at the bottom? Also I thought Brine shrimp died without aeration after hatching, I guess that was wrong.
@MicroWorld75 жыл бұрын
they die for poor oxygenated water... but if you keep waterchange everyday water is always oxygenated.... i keep them alive like this for 3/4 days after hatching.... you can have a floating ring... but some eggs will mess around anyway ^^

@@MicroWorld7 And I used sea saltwater to hatch them cause my friend said it was better than homemade saltwater is that true ?
@smirbelbirbel4 жыл бұрын
@@faez6150 That sounds unreasonable to me. What they need it Salt. The trace minerals you get with sea salt may or may not help or harm them. They don't like iodine and there's always some of that in sea salt. I would stick with NaCl that is as pure as possible.

How to feed bbs if I wanted to keep them?
@MicroWorld75 жыл бұрын
In their first stage of development, brine shrimps nauplii do not feed, but consume their own energy reserves stored in the cyst. Wild brine shrimps eat microscopic planktonic algae. Cultured brine shrimps can also be fed particulate foods including yeast, wheat flour, soybean powder or egg yolk
@johnlyndonnacua95205 жыл бұрын

Can you raise them into big shrimps ?
@i.i.iiii.i.i6 жыл бұрын
Yes but you need artemia food (e.g. spirulina) and an airpump (or a straw to blow some bubbles every day to create some movement in the water for more oxygen exchange) and definitely a larger container. Once have it set up and algae is growing in the water you barely need to feed them and the algae creates oxygen. To get the algae growing you can just place the "aquarium" next to a window with a lot of sunlight ;)
