For everyone with a NVIDIA graphics card. Go to the NVIDIA menu, add OBS and select integrated graphics. If you still have a black screen, select display screen and it should work. Also, make sure you have your OBS updated, and if you don't update it and add it again in the NVIDIA menu.

Ok so I found a quick fix, I dont know how to describe the problem but this worked for me: 1) right click the game capture source 2) Go to the transform option and click on "Fit Screen" you should see immediate effects, if not apparently you didnt run the OBS as an administrator or have the wrong version or invidia or graphics card application is making life difficult for you, Hope it helps. By the way I dont know why people dont include that as a solution since it can be something that simple as the game being recorded in that little red square or somewhere off screen, also check the resolution setting if nothing helps good luck.

I know you were a wizard Tropix, I knew it all along, THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS WORKED!! :D So this is what worked for me: I have OBS closed, Ran OBS as administrator (my laptop is 64bit so I chose 64bit) Opened OBS Opened my game Add a source and click the settings for it My mode: Capture specific window Window: Whatever your game is, it has to be a separate window on the taskbar, open it and choose the only option. Enable Multi-Adapter Compatibility Click OK The black screen in the middle should be replaced with your game window. THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN TROPIX THE WIZARD

Photoshop people. Finally. What worked for me is to choose game capture and choose the specific PS window e.g. Untitled1. Then in the main obs screen, click the transition button. Remove all the quick transitions. Let me know if it works for you.

If you have two GPUs, integrated and gaming GPU (like I have a intergated GPU and GTX 1060) and can't capture the monitor (it shows up as a black screen), you can try this: open your GPU 3D settings (like NVIDIA control panel), choose 3D settings control or similar and program settings. Click add program and choose OBS studio, or click the drop down menu. When you find OBS studio, the setting "choose automatically: enhanced performance GPU" is selected. Change the setting to "integrated graphics". You want to do this because OBS runs on the integrated GPU, even when the enhanced performance GPU is running. It then should capture the monitor, no matter what GPU is running. Worked for me.

A simple solution for chrome users. Many people do not have an option of accessing their integrated graphics. There is a much better way to handle this. Using chrome, after opening go to the three dots in the upper right corner and click, then click on the left panel settings, then click on systems, On the "use hardware acceleration when available" turn it off. Now check, it should be working fine.

If you are getting a black screen and can't find any working solutions either, then I would personally just find a new studio. I give up, this is absurd.

hey guys i was just trying to figure it out and i got it to work. This might not work for everyone (Step 1. Run administer OBS Studio (step 2. Run a league of legends game (Step 3. Put on Borderless mode (Step 4. ALT Tab till OBS stuido is over top of league of legends game (Step 5. Make source Game Capture go to settings make Mode capture specific window. Make Window League of (legends.exe) : League of legends (TM) Client i hope it will work for someone :) if not i tried sorry :(

An easy fix is running it in administrator. Tried it and it worked. To run it as administrator, right click the program icon and go to the bottom where it says: properties. Then, under the Shortcut tab, click 'advanced' at the bottom right. After that, click on the box that says: run as administrator. You will also need to set your games to regular 'windowed' mode and have them running before you start up OBS and you will need to click on the game file designated for your game in the source section of OBS.

Basically, if you want to record display capture, then you need to make OBS run on integrated graphics, if you want to record game capture, you need to run it on NVIDIA

Turning off shadowplay made no difference but setting as administrator did, thank you. Also you can set your shortcut to OBS to always open as administrator. Right click on the shortcut (if it's on your task bar there's a second click on the OBS icon that pops up) , properties, advanced, set as "run as administrator". It will do it every time then.

All windows were fine for me except for chrome browser, which was black. I found another video that directed me to go to the advanced settings in chrome and turn OFF hardware acceleration. This fixed the problem for me.

Everyone's issue seems to be a little different. This is probably due to different PC setups. What worked for me was: Set up OBS as Admin, and set it to Windows 7 Compatibility. Run OBS first, Then Run Game, wait about 5 seconds, tab out, and you should see it running. Also MAKE SURE that you set it to 1920 x 1080, or whatever your resolution is, or it will only grab part of your screen.

Thanks, I never would have thought to change to 32bit version to get display capture to work! OBS wanted to install to Program Files (x86) by default, which I know is for 32bit programs, so I thought it must be a 32bit program only. Then I see it has a 64bit version after install so I start using that version as I'm on a 64bit system, which seemed fine except I couldn't get display capture to work. I guess 64bit programs like to be in Program Files\ where 32bit programs have to be in Program Files (x86)\... I may try to reinstall to use the 64bit version but for now this is a good fix, Thank you!

If anyone is using a black magic mini recorder, or any black magic video capture device.... open the black magic “Desktop video utility” and make sure you have your video input set to HDMI. It automatically sets the input to SDI.
