I can juggle 5 balls and get over 100 catches fairly consistently after years of practicing, but a lot of the time, my pattern gets quite messy once I reach this number of throws... I ended up getting better at catching bad throws instead of getting better at making good throws, so I was essentially practicing errors. Just a fore warning to people learning 5 balls: Don't try to throw and catch as many as you can, instead, make fewer throws and make them as clean as you can, and then collect the balls. Then start the pattern again. This way, you will be practicing making good throws and improve much more quickly instead of trying to get as many catches as you can, which will just limit your progress. In summary, practice fewer throws but make them as clean as you can - if the pattern begins to get messy, stop the pattern and start again. Avoid trying to make as many throws as you can until your pattern feels solid and is consistently clean.

My current record is 312, with 100+ consistent, after a couple years practice (I'm in my 40s, so it takes a while to learn). Once you get to higher numbers of catches (50+), fatigue becomes an issue, where it's difficult to make the exact same throws because your arms lose strength. Part of getting to higher numbers was training my brain to increase the force signal it sends to the muscles to get the same throw height, to compensate for fatigue. I think you need to do some higher number training to build up that part of the muscle memory, in addition to consistency training. What helped me break out above 50 catches was to focus on relaxing my arms, so my muscles weren't straining against themselves (I also had to teach myself to breathe and blink in a normal relaxed way!). I'm trying to learn 5 ball tricks now, although trying for a cascade record is addictive... Other suggestions for beginners which the video doesn't mention (which I got from other lesson videos): Practicing 4 ball fountain can help with strength and speed. When learning to flash, practice in front of a bed to reduce gather time. If you can't flash (it took me a week for my first clean flash), focus on getting all the balls out of your hands with consistent timing and height, and don't even try to catch them. They should land with even timing if you've got it right.

Took me about an hour a day for TWO YEARS before I was REALLY in control. People commenting on here, how they did 10, 15 or even 20 catches (their BEST result in 1000s of attempts) and think they are juggling 5....well I would argue that you aren't really in control until you can get way past that, FOR ME I didn't feel like I was really doing it until I was routinely gettings runs of 50 and occasionally 100, at which point I REALLY WAS doing it with control and correcting mistakes and making adjustments. Would say I had 700 hours of practice specifically on 5 balls, until I reached this level. My best ever was around a minute or 250 catches. MASSIVE difference between getting 15 or 20 catches on your best effort ever and averaging 50+, BY FAR the most difficult physical skill I have learned in my life. GOOD LUCK to all those on the journey!!!!
@Aaron-kr5vg Жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you that 20 catches of 5 ball is still a super long way from being comfortable with the pattern. I qualified 5 on my very first day of learning and thought it would come easy. Boy was I wrong. Now I’ve been practicing for little over a year (on and off) and am now barely starting to get 100+ catch runs (most of my runs are still between 60 and 100 catches). Although I’ve had breakthroughs here and there, there was never a point where the pattern just “clicked” and I could run it indefinitely unlike 3 and 4 balls. To this day, I’m continually finding ways to improve my 5b pattern and probably will be for at least the next year or two.

Hello guys, I know at least two methods to do the 4 ball cross. Maybe it's different from what you expect, but it's very effective and looks really good :). One method is called "The half - shower " Unfortunately I noticed that at least 95 % of all jugglers do it wrong and that's too bad. I know the secret how to do it in an astonishing way and suprised even some of the really good jugglers. Another way to do the 4 ball cross is pretending that you are juggling with 5 balls, just with an imaginary "hole". But you do neither learn to juggle with 5 balls neither juggle actively this invisible hole. The secret is a nearly continuous, equal rhythm. It is similar but not the same as one of those training excercises that are shown in this really nice video here. Maybe I will show my method once in one of my own videos....Good luck to you and remember: Juggling is not just about having many balls in the air. I know a quiet different method to do a five ball cross as well. It was fun learning to juggle with five this way....Soon it's christmas time! Here you can see another method how to juggle: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3ilmpiLmdShptE Greetings!

Awesome tutorial, thank you! Might I ask what type/brand of balls you like to use? I notice that most professional jugglers seem to use hard balls - the ones I have used for the past few years are soft and filled with some kind of synthetic grain. What is the rationale behind using hard, and not soft balls? Is it just that they are more consistent? I like using the soft ones when practicing a pattern I am not yet familiar with, because the balls don't roll away when I drop them, but do you think it's better to use hard balls all the time? Thanks again for the great videos!

@newlyborncorn4 жыл бұрын
My personal best is 500+ catches, and I do 100+ with ease. Getting from a flash to qualify is a big step because collisions becomes even harder to avoid when there are more balls in the air. I recommend training 3- and 4-ball tricks like snake, 552, 3b flash, high 3b cascade (with different dwell-time), 55550, 5551, to name a few. 501 (2b trick) is also helpful. The most important thing is the accuracy, so really focus on *gently* placing each ball onto its desired destination. Catching will pretty much take care of itself when the throws are accurate. Do continue practicing the flash though! You'll get better as long as you practice and the flash is like the most important part of mastering the 5b cascade.

I was watching the how to juggle 4 balls and thought I'd take a look ahead at the 5, just in case I actually get 4. Of course the 5 ball just came up automatically. Trying to expand my movement practice to include greater complexity. This looks pretty complex! But, I sense, your videos here make it as simple as possible and, maybe make it manageable. Although, that's obviously going to depend on how much work I put in. Thank you for the excellent videos. Ironically, the principles are pretty simple, right. And, it looks simple for you. But the learning of it has to recruit so much more of your brain and hand eye coordination. Just like you can explain a few simple concepts in a math problem but then ask a question that is very hard to answer, at least at first but sometimes ever.

@jine71233 жыл бұрын
I think 7 balls will take more time than even learning to juggle 5 balls well, even though people who are learning 7 balls will have 5 balls mastered so they have experience, just because the accuracy needed to juggle 7 balls is far more strict than the accuracy needed to juggle 5 - The room for error with 5 balls is far greater than 7. 7 balls is my next juggling challenge, together with 5 balls mills mess.

he was juggling since he was a young kid, but for the average juggler, it should normally take up to 1, or 2 years to do it from scratch..

Hi - I am after some advice. I started learning to juggle (3 balls) over Christmas break and have managed to get up to 8 balls. I can't seem to get further and the problem seems to be in the throwing - the balls get steadily more out of control as I get to 8 and then I get no further. I can catch ok I just can't throw balls I can catch. I have hit 'walls' before - at 3 and 5 balls but this is tough to get past. I really want to juggle 'continuously' and wonder if you could offer some advice about technique. I know sticking at it is key, but I think I need to improve my technique.

Nick Hammond Hello NIck, Make sure you lay a solid foundation for yourself. Practice the "flash" over and over and and slowly build up the amount of throws. Let me know if you need more help. Niles

Hey Niels, I'm practicing the 3-4 ball exercises for 5 ball juggling. Problem is, I'm bad at throwing with my left hand since I'm right handed. Also, I can do the 3 ball cascade. Any solutions for helping me throw better with my left hand? I'd like to know... Thanks
@NielsDuinker8 жыл бұрын
Hello Jonathan, Work on precision exercises for just your left hand! With practice you will get it!!

+Niels Duinker Thank you for the feedback. Are there any exercises that you recommend that I should work on with my left hand?

The three ball snail is a great move to strengthen your left hand precision.

Hi Niels . Thanks very much for your reply but what do you mean by flash?
@NielsDuinker9 жыл бұрын
Nick Hammond Nick, a flash is one repetition of the pattern. 5 throws and 5 catching

What balls do you use?
@medos8999Ай бұрын
I think it’s muscle memory mostly, loads of repitition till accident he got it right then muscle remember where to throw it exactly how much force and what direction so that it lands on other hand perfectly.

So I have tried to do this, but I am having some trouble. I can juggling 3 balls just fine, and I can juggle four decently. So I tried to do the Right Left left Right etc... practice, but even though I have been practicing i for a few months, I can get it. Any other things I could try to get up to this point so I can then continue with the other practices and eventually get to five balls?
@NielsDuinker7 жыл бұрын
Hello Noah, 5 balls is not an easy trick..It took me over a month to learn, so you're still ahead of schedule!
@noahheise77497 жыл бұрын
Ok thank you for the quick reply. Also, before I continue learning this, should I master 4 balls? Or is the fact that I can juggle 4 balls at all good enough?
@NielsDuinker7 жыл бұрын
It's important to have the 4 ball juggling down really well
