I feel like I edit in the same process as you. But now I think this is helpful to me as well because of the different techniques you used that I never knew like the gradient effect and the star overlay background from Ibispaint. You can add a black layer and do a checker effect and go to blending & opacity and use the lighten. If this won't work then idk what to do bcuz that's i only can help

Yeah i lowing the opacity i think i can help, add black layer and just add the effect checker (ofc) if you done adjust the effect, go back & click on blending & opacity and select the lighten one and adjust the opacity, i hope this helped!

I think I'll help. Add the black layer and black color, and go effects add checker effect, then if you done, go on blending & opacity select the lighten! Hope it helps you
