Tutorial: KiCAD export to JLCPCB PCB manufacturing and SMT assembly

I have ordered many boards at JLC and still find the ordering process from KiCAD very confusing and complicated. Formatting the BOM and POS files somehow is still confusing to me. This is to save you from having the same problems I had.

Thanks, incredibly useful! I was very surprised how easy SMT is for JLCPCB. Never have tried it before as I supposed it would be too expensive, bet here I can see it ends up cheaper than ordering all parts by myself. Definitely should try JLCPCB SMT process next time.

Nice to hear that the video helped. 3rd party assembly can be cheaper than ordering all the parts yourself and assembling them. It depends a bit on the number of 'special' parts and the overall number of parts, but usually, it's not worth the effort to solder >50 pcs assemblies with many small parts yourself. Hey, yes it does. Except for the small error with the "do not place" components.

Maybe the bug is not in KiCAD but in the JLC export script. To be checked.

So I've tried this process and when I hit generate after adding the JLC script I get an error window pop up saying "Execution of command failed. The system cannot find the file specified.). And when I close the pop up, i can see there's also "Command error. Return code -1." in the generator window. What have I missed?

Hmm. I've never had this issue. Have you followed the instructions on the JLC page? In my case, the script is in my downloads folder (I know not the best place for it). You have to specify the path in KiCad.

How can I add text to the front or bottom silk screen layer in KiCad like you did for your?

On the right side of your PCB editor window you can find a large "T" symbol. Klick on it and enter the text ;)

Do I have to select first the F.silkscreen before clicking on the "Add a text item"..? Or there is a particular layer l would select to achieve that.?
