Thank you so so much for filming these videos. I’ve been cherishing the slippers my grandma made me for over 30 years and was sad to have never learned this pattern. Now I’m making new ones for everyone in my family this year

Wtg Shirley, I just made my first slipper from your instructions and am so proud of myself. First thing I have ever made knitting. It wasn't too easy or too hard. I was motivated because I've always lived those slippers and wanted to learn to make them. Yippee with your help I've done it!

Hi Shirley, my mother made these slippers for us when we were children and I loved wearing them. My mother now suffers from severe tremors and can no longer knit. I thought it would be a great idea to learn how to make them and surprise my whole family with these slippers for next Christmas. I've watched many tutorials on how to make them but yours is, by far, the best, easiest and most detailed version I've seen. I am 61 years old and have never knitted in my life but I am confident that with help from your videos I can do this without much difficulty. Well done! I just have one question. How long does it take you to knit one pair of slippers? P.S. I have been practicing my knit stitches for a while and am getting pretty good at it. Thanks again!

What a wonderful idea!!!! My mom had essential tremors as well. I was her caregiver before she passed and that is when she taught me how to make these slippers. She would sell the slippers she made and sold so many. They are the biggest seller when I go to craft sales and guess I have made and sold more than 300 pairs. When I started I was not a great knitter. I now can make a pair in a couple of days, I work at them in short spurts, when I sit to rest during the day or in the evening. I made the videos to document them for my daughter who knits and crochets (she hasn't made a pair yet) and also for my 4 granddaughters should they get the urge to start knitting. You know the " I wish my mom was here to show me how she did that." You can change the size of the slippers by decreasing or increasing the number of stitches you cast on by -8 or +8, or by changing the weight of yarn or size of needles. I hope this helps and encourage you to keep practicing. If you need any extra help please don't hesitate to reach out to me.🥰

I’m going to do the same for next Christmas and to sell at the farmers market. I’ve been crocheting since age five and started learning to knit in recent year’s. Knitting is different pace and I love it.

Hi Shirley, Needles is 5 mm ?? How many stiches & rows in Medium & Small Size (Large is 60 stitches & 30 rows) ?? Thanks
@Aroundtoit37122 жыл бұрын
Hi Carole. Yes I used 5mm needles. For making the different sizes. Medium start with 52 stitches and count 26 knit rows (ribs) on the right side.(It is actually 52 rows of knitting) Small start with 44 stitches and count 22 knit rows (ribs) on the right side. You can adjust to make other sizes by increasing or decreasing the number of stitches by 8. I hope this helps. If not just give me a shout back.

How many stitches for a childs slipper? Roughly
@Aroundtoit3712 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. Depending on the age I go down to 36 or 44 stitches. Starting with 44 stitches the ones I made finished at about 6 1/2 inches. I hope this helps.

Hello. I am from Quebec so sorry about the not so perfect English. Thank you for your tutorial. It is very easy to understand for me. My question is some people use 2 yarns (double) ? I tried one slipper and was very big.. what is the reason for using 2 yarns and they get crossed so much!? If there is a good reason, do I use the same needle size? Thank you and have a beautiful day.
@Aroundtoit37122 жыл бұрын
Some people will use 2 yarns if the yarn is thinner than what I used. The thickness of the yarn will change the finished size of the slipper. The thicker the yarn the larger the slipper. Yes the yarn will get crossed if you don't uncross as you stitch. I hope this helps.

How many stitches do i new for a 5 year old snd how long ty
@Aroundtoit3712 Жыл бұрын
Hi ! For a 5 year old, I would suggest casting on 40 or 36 stitches. and knitting the rows until you have 20 or 18 knit rows on the right side before doing the toe shaping. I hope this helps. I have a pair that I used 44 stitches and 22 knit rows that measure about 6 inches when finished. They stretch quite a bit . I hope this helps.

Hi Shirley, your videos are great. My grandma made slippers like that but they were the checker board look. Is it possible for you to make a video on how to make the checker board slippers cause other video from different people are very hard to see and understand. Thanks again for your videos and your time.
@Aroundtoit37122 жыл бұрын
Hi Darla, Thank you for your comment. I haven't made the checker board slippers but will definitely make a pair and post a video.

@E Sally I used 5mm. Thank you for watching.

Hello, Shirley. Thanks so much for this tutorial. I have made some of the Checkerboard slippers and was so happy to see the Stripes. I am wondering if you can tell me about how many inches I need to allow for the gathering of the toe and the heel seam. I know I am going to have to have more than the 30 rows. I am sure it has to do with the yarn and I knit tight. For example: If someone wears a Size 10 shoe, will I be safe in knitting the Stripes for say 13 inches ... 10 inches for the foot and 3 inches for the toe and heel ... or will I need more. Your expertise is certainly appreciated. Thank you and stay safe. Dot

Thank you for the comment. I am going to get back to you as soon as I can regarding your question. I just need to do some measuring to be sure I am answering correctly.🥰
@Aroundtoit37122 жыл бұрын
Hi Dot. In response to your question, I hope I am answering correctly. For the heel, I leave about 12 inches of yarn before I make my slip knot. I think leaving about 13 to 14 inches would allow enough yarn to stitch up the heel. After I have completed stitching up the slipper, with the stitches still on the needles, I usually allow myself three times the length of the slipper and cut my yarns that length. That allows me to gather the stitches onto the yarn tails and go through those stitches a second time, and stitch up the top of the slipper. These are generous amounts but I would rather have extra yarn than be short. I hope I have answered your questions. If you have more questions please don't hesitate to ask and I will try to answer the best I can. Thanks!

Hello Shirley, I just started knitting slippers and am so happy to have found your videos. My 6 year old grandson asked for slippers so my question is you had mentioned in your vide that 30 rows( bumps) will be a small? Would that be a child size? I was wondering if you would know how many rows I would need for men size and women size? Thank you for your videos

I still have some Phentex how many ply’s do you use to make these, please
@Aroundtoit37122 жыл бұрын
I used a 4 ply 100% acrylic yarn. I believe these were originally made from Phentex but not 100% sure. I have used a 3 ply but they turn out much smaller. I hope this helps.
