This is amazing. What would you say would be the minimum amount of raffia needed to make one of these?

Where would the best place to buy the straw from if you can get it locally?

Any store that sells straw for weaving. Raffia is often used in basket coiling and other ornamental use, depending on where you are there may be different availability of materials. I know one person in Mexico who made it from corn straw because that’s all they had access to

@@kalejackola1075 don’t forget you can manually split the straw strands if they are fibrous enough to your desired thickness

@enoryuu295 i never thought about that. Also, when you get halfway through the crown of the hat and start sewing the straw in the other direction. Is it recommended do it that stability reasons or could we sew the straw all the way through the crown and then start sewing the straw in the other direction for the brim. Sorry is this is long and doesn't make sense

@@kalejackola1075 you could attempt to sow the straw underneath the entire crown but it may become too heavy/sturdy I recommend using thinner straw to minimise the weight for comfort

You can buy red ribbons from craft stores, preferably grosgrain ribbons

The base hat I had bought off marketplace for about 10AUD, but you can use any wide brimmed boater hat
