For the sticker back, you can actually just select None in the drop down menu and then change the background color in the color box.

i appreciate you making this but found it difficult to keep up. Our illustrator layouts don't look the same so it would have been nice to make sure ours looked the same when beginning. I appreciate you treating me like i know what I'm doing but I don't and thats why I was watching this tutorial. Also found it difficult to keep pace without knowing what buttons you are clicking. Some other tutorials include a graphic in the button left or right that indicate if a key is being clicked so we can follow short cuts.

Thanks for the feedback on this one, we're working on some more beginner motion design tutorials and always want to make sure we're doing our best to get the methods across so I'll take this on board and we'll try to spell things out a bit more on the next one! As someone currently learning, is there anything that you're really keen to get more of an understanding of when it comes to motion design?

When I started AE, AI, PS and the rest, I bought keyboard covers for each program. They've got all the hot keys and shortcuts on them, color coded. Used them for years. It really doesn't take long before even four-key shortcuts are unconscious though. Most useful key for tutorials, however, is the space bar. Try that first.

If you import a file from illustrator, make sure to import it as a composition instead of footage because it will appear as one flat object which is not helpful.

I have used Adobe Illustrator for the past 4 years, so I am not a beginner in this program, however I am new to After Effects. This video is apparently for 'Beginners' but I can tell you it is most certainly not for beginners. Jess is clearly familiar with both programs, and because of this, assumes that you are too. If you are a beginner in either program you will find it very overwhelming when many many things are assumed by Jess. Such as what colours to use, the dimensions of the page, the units of measurement used, shortcuts and what each button does. You are never given any dimensions for the image you are creating and are just supposed to eyeball it. This video took much longer than 1 hour to complete as I had to replay sections numerous times to catch Jess' quick, sudden movements. Jess also seemed to be figuring out steps as she went, which resulted in more work than necessary for both herself and the viewer. Along with jump-cuts which cut out important information, such as keeping the grey background separate from the sticker (which causes problems later on when you spin the image or create a 'sticker' animation). I did finish the video and end up with the desired result, but the journey was certainly not enjoyable or easy. Almost took me back to the frustration I felt during the last year of my Bachelor's Degree. Sometimes you are better just to teach yourself.

As a complete beginner at adobe, I'm glad such accessible tutorials like these exist. It rlly helps to follow a professionals workflow as a guide. But it would have rlly helped to have keyboard shortcuts used on screen. I tend to get hardstuck very frequently on certain parts. Like the using the transform tool on the eye, couldn't figure out how ot what shortcuts used to drag out on top and bottom points at the same time. And just resorted to using the anchor tool manually on all points.

This is great but it feels more like a follow along than a tutorial, and most follow alongs always skip something seemingly minor but end up frustrating the hell out of me when I try to imitate. Would love to see a hotkey displayer or something like that. Short story shorter: You're going to get frustrated

It seems common practice for Ae tutorials not to show how to export your file, do I use the render tab in after effects or do I export using Media Encoder? How do I get the transparent background? Your tutorial, like most similar tutorials leave the beginner wondering what now.

Drawing eyes: creating layers for animation --> in this part I can't do it. every time I pull the shape down after pressing E, the shape is not the same as in the video. the shape is not oval but flat. can you provide a solution?
@envatotuts
@envatotuts 2 ай бұрын
Hi! This might help: Selection: Make sure you have the shape selected before using the Transform tool. Constrain Proportions: When you pull the shape to scale it, hold down the Shift key. This constrains the proportions, ensuring the shape remains oval and doesn't get flattened. Transform Panel: For precise control, you can use the Transform panel (Window > Transform). Here, you can input exact width and height values to maintain proportions. Direct Selection Tool: If the shape still doesn't look right, use the Direct Selection Tool (A) to adjust the individual anchor points of the shape. Undo and Try Again: If you make a mistake, use Ctrl + Z (Windows) or Cmd + Z (Mac) to undo and try again. Cheers!

I nearly didn't watch this because the subject, a very bright ghastly label, was not at all appealing. (I'm a 69 year old nerd. I hope to use Ai (etc) for much more subtle, maybe technical, designs.) HOWEVER: I'm so glad I watched. I learned so much. 👍 You should get commission from Adobe as I'm about to buy their stupidly expensive CCloud. Your coverage of Ai -> Ae is great and has made me much less scared of Ae. You've got the usual comments from people who are too lazy to pause or go back a few seconds. The pace is completely subjective to the person watching. I'm not a beginner, but I have used Ai very little - the pace was right for me. It's tempting to criticise the style of the workflow/presentation - I don't think I'll be working like that, but it's always good to see how someone else works and works very effectively. I've been looking for Ai tutorials for technical drawing (diagrams etc), but there seems to be very little available - suggestions welcome 🤓. Many (many) years ago I found Ai so frustrating that it didn't work like CorelDraw 😆.
