Back in 1998, I tried unsuccessfully to use the Pen tool in Photoshop. I was a total beginner. Day after day I was incredibly frustrated and bewildered by this tool that drew stupid gray lines that would disappear. Nothing worked the way I thought it should! One day, I finally learned about vector graphics and path-based artwork. Because of that, I fell in love with any tool that could create a path and I finally dedicated the time to learn how to use the Pen tool. Since then, the Pen tool has been a foundational element in my 20+ years of Photoshop experience. I hope you learn to love the Pen tool as much as I have! Thanks for watching!

Basically is a matter of forcing yourself to practise and within an hour you get most of the hold of it, but that first hour you would probably like to spend alone or at least without kids due to the cursing hehehehehe.

I really appreciate your teaching style and I got way more out of the video than I expected. I appreciate the fact you actually demonstrate what happens when you do certain things. Sadly too many folks making the videos have people telling you not to do something but never show you. I guess they haven't seen the one on CTRL-Z 🙂 Well done

So far I've been using various types of the Lasso Tool to make selections. I'll have to try it with this and compare the results. Most selections are characters. Could be interesting.
@tutvid2 жыл бұрын
Could be cool! When you get fast with the Pen tool, you can move through selection very quickly!

The one thing that both Ps and Illustrator seem to be missing is the ability to shorten one half of a pair of control handles without altering the tangential direction. This can be achieved, I think, by clicking the actual curve segment and moving it but it’s the finer control that I miss.
@tutvid2 жыл бұрын
I agree, Would be cool to have a Shift+Alt kind of hotkey to lock in that tangent handle angle. Good idea.

I honestly feel that all these new features in PS are just attempts (both bad and ingenious) to circumvent people's anxiety when trying to learn and use the Pen Tool. It's an opinion based on years of observation. The Pen tool still remains to be my go-to power tool and it has never failed me. Would you rather cut with a scalpel or a serrated knife?
@tutvid Жыл бұрын
I kind of agree with you. Nothing is more versatile or to-the-point as the pen tool (once you know how to use it.)

Another fabulous tutorial. All your tuts are so precise. Love them and glad you're back. I always learn from you. If you wanted to trace the car, windows doors, headlights, mirror with the pen tool could you make the lines visible?

I think you mean "Parent the pen tool QUICKLY!", since the word "master" might offend some, so Adobe changed it to "parent".
