1 to 1 1/2 months later: THIS IS GREAT, I’m 16 now and I got all of these “mature” adults to argue with a teenager, half of the time they were just straw-manning me about things I never even say or imply, because they are in denial that an *adolescent* (not a “literal child”) is capable of free expression and thought. Expressions and thoughts that could lead to things that make sense to an open, critical thinking mind. My Original comment: “ I’m 15 and I remember when I was 14, and we do have the ability to process things, just less than an adult with a fully developed brain. I definitely think that 19 year old guy is disgusting especially given the age gap and the fact that he probably tried to convinced her to give pictures and not the other way around, definitely a disgusting predator no matter how “depressed” he said he is, it isn’t an excuse. But please stop calling us “literal children who can’t process anything” we can and we are teens in our early/mid stages. We can be groomed and abused easier than adults because we are less developed but we aren’t literal children like 5 year olds. “

@normanorman2 жыл бұрын
definitely not pedophilic. people forget that at the end of the day both of them admitted to possessing/sharing nude pictures of a minor… nobody really understands the legal ramifications, it’s all a bunch of jargon, about age of consent and about romeo and juliet laws, the sad truth is that if it were a physical relationship instead of the two sexting the circumstances would likely be less questionable, from a legal standpoint. everyone’s been treating it as if it’s basically the same as a genuine physical relationship between a 19 and 17 y.o. this guy had texted multiple girls… he knew this girl was a little bit younger as well as a fan of his so she was malleable, he never had to go outside to form an actual intimate relationship with this girl. his face was prolly totally expressionless when they exchanged their nudes and for sure he thought about how messed up this was even as he was doing it, so it’s not like he thought he was just innocently dating someone. but that’s just my two cents

Your point about Carson is one that I agree with and that I think a lot of people miss (or maybe dismiss). He's not a ped0, predator, groomer, whatever Twitter wants to label him this Tuesday. But the power dynamic is still an issue, even if Carson didn't mean it. I doubt he was intentionally and maliciously exploiting the girls' admiration of him for his own sexual gain or actively pressuring them into sending him stuff, but he was kind of a dumbass for not considering how his internet fame might affect their ability to make decisions, and I think them having felt pressured in those situations is justified. "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."
@bucketofchicken8325 Жыл бұрын
I'm a little confused on how you find that it is his fault that this girl felt pressured to "send him stuff" as you say, especially since you also say you don't believe he was intentionally pressuring them. However, I don't believe anyone ever said that they felt pressured to send him photos. I don't know if it was somewhere outside of this video or if you simply understood what tuv said differently than I did. Quite frankly I don't even understand why the girl came out and said that he was grooming them when she was of a legal age (at least, I think she was,) Also, I don't understand why you said, "I think them having felt pressured in those situations is justified." I don't think he ever did any convincing, from his perspective he was just sexting some barely legal girl. Immoral? (Debatable, but I think yes.) Illegal? (Of course not.) Malicious? (I don't think so.) Either way, please respond to this comment because I'm more confused than anything right now.

@@bucketofchicken8325 Carson is famous. There's gonna be some felt pressure when you're being flirted with and asked for nudes from by a celebrity you look up to and admire, even if that celebrity didn't try to maliciously pressure you. I think it's mostly on him because he's the side that was not under pressure in this scenario so he should've had a clearer head than the girls, yet he didn't take that dynamic into account when he was texting them and didn't make sure they were on a level playing field before going into intimate territory. Straight-up saying that he groomed them was probably a step too far, but I can understand why it could feel like grooming from their perspective, because of that pressure resulting from the status imbalance.

The 17-year-old in 19 year old texting each other is 100% no big deal. I can't even believe it was made into one. Even if you're famous, in no way shape or form is there an issue with that. I mean how? One could be graduating high school or just graduated and the other one is in high school. I just can't comprehend how he got so much hate because of that. I mean it was like embarrassing the way he was texting her, maybe because that was exposed that he was corny with his texting but other than that, nothing. I'd say the people that brought attention to it should be ashamed of themselves and maybe have somebody put a microscope on their lives and see what they can pull out of it. Now that we're getting to the point where the guy saying she was younger than that, unless there's actual proof other than just hearsay, this guy just being a douche and trying to ruin someone's life and seems to be doing it. If in fact the girl was 13 or 14 years old, then yes I understand the consequences of him falling off on youtube. Because in high school there is a significant mentality difference between a 13/14 year old girl and a 19 year old boy.

Dude had like 10k subs when they were dating, she initiated the conversation, and there was absolutely no way he was using his fame and subscribers to threaten her into doing something for him. If people look at the entire dm's they would know this. There was literally nothing wrong in what he did. If we are to say that a mere two year gap between two late aged teenagers isn't allowed then we would have to prosecute a large portion of senior highschool relationships. If we are to say that a "power dynamic" between a youtuber and a fan isn't allowed we may as well arrest celebrities or any people who are in a postition where they have a power dynamic that are dating their fans. Its just bullsh!t how this even became an issue.

Ngl it was mainly because twitter does what it does best, which is blowing things out of proportion, for a 2 year age gap, it's still kinda wrong but Carson didn't deserve to lose THIS much

as somebody who has trauma related to "being groomed", this is hard to hear and makes me so upset that people use their power to manipulate and coerce others - especially when their younger. anyone who does that (in my book) doesn't deserve forgiveness. they know it's wrong but they do it anyway.

update: this is so infuriating, what the hell. there is NO excuse for sending lewd pictures TO A CHILD - it is absolutely disgusting and it is your fault, not hers she is a minor and you were what - 19? an ADULT. stop lying to yourself.

@@bunnynoriaki4109 yeah … the whole “2 year age gap” is fine if the girl was OF AGE. She was still not legally an adult. I’m not sure why people try to justify it. Maybe the laws are different in the US

Honestly Carson's situation pisses me off befause it goes to show that the Internet will ruin your life for nothing just like that. The 2 year age gap is nothing to be ashamed of or chastised over and the argument that there was ever a power dynamic that was being abused is fucking insane. Im so happy he got the help he needed when most of the Internet was against him for it.
