Thanks for this fascinating video - I never watched TV in the 1980s when I was young, especially not Breakfast TV, as I was always rushing out of the door to school. Now these snippets of old breakfast TV fascinate me!! was this actually 1981? I thought Breakfast TV began in 1983.

I love all vegetables and salads and dips, but my baked potatoes are unhealthy, I like a knob of butter melted over the the two halves of the potato, I cut it in half, and then a large spoonful of coleslaw over each half!! full of calories and unhealthy but so good!! 😊

Thanks for the comments, I could only judge the date of this clip from the other clips hedging it in on the old video tape. Definitely vintage breakfast TV though, and shows how much slower television was those days, not as rushed as today!

TV AM started during February 1983.

That's right, although to be fair, TV-am did exist in 1981 as they had previously won the breakfast television franchise at the end of December 1980. I think that the closest that there was to breakfast television in 1981 was either the Open University; Ceefax; the testcard; or indeed the start of the Charles and Diana Royal Wedding coverage on Wednesday 29th July!
