TV DUEL: Wagenknecht vs. Weidel! Cuddling, controversies - no coalition? Dispute about Höcke!
It started with a brief pause for politeness. When asked by moderator Jan Philipp Burgard in the so-called TV duel, Alice Weidel and Sahra Wagenknecht hesitated for a second in a friendly manner and let each other go first. But then the AfD leader and the founder of the alliance Sahra Wagenknecht started in the Welt TV studio. And the longer it lasted, the more contentious the whole thing became.
“Ms. Wagenknecht is absolutely right about that."
The duel between the two leading women was also a warm-up for next year's federal election. In the polls, the AfD is at 17 to 20 percent nationwide, and the BSW at 7 to 9 percent. Neither of the two currently has the prospect of joining the federal government. But after the state elections in eastern Germany, both parties are currently riding a wave of success.
