As someone who has paternal family in South Africa I haven't seen for a very long time (haven't seen my aunt and grandma aince 2013, haven't seen my uncle and cousin since 2007 and haven't met my other aunt, uncle, 4 cousins and their spouses and children, my 2007 cousin's fiancee, my uncle's adopted kids from his ex wife's first marriage and their families) this really hit home and made me cry. Don't get it mixed up - just because bread and circuses are used to placate oppressed people, doesn't mean you can't eat bread or enjoy a circus. Nowadays it's entirely your choice and many of us choose to placate ourselves by overindulging in bread and circuses. Turns out we don't always need Caesar. And when you can see and admit that the world is reflected in yourself, you'll have begun to walk the way out.

100 thousand does not last a life time at all. It would last a good few years but 100k can get you just 1 house in England, not even a top of the range house either. Be realistic.
