This is one of those songs that just stab me in my third cultured little heart. Growing up red haired in a brown country was lots of bullying, non consentual touching and all sorts of rude/innaproprite coments. It made me the center of attention in all the worst ways and for that i hated my hair for years until i took safety sisors to the lot and hair die asap afterwards. Its so strangely soothing to look back on all the red hair based trauma with this song in prticular and see how much i have healed, now finaly growing my hair back out with pride and learning to take care of it. I am 17 and i'm currently dating a white guy, i'm hispanic. Our relationship sucks for a great deal of reasons. But what's hurt me the most is that he has a preference for blonde blue eyed girls. He even had a crush on my ex best friend when we first started dating (who had blonde hair, blue eyes, perfect body), . I saw pictures of white girls on his secret instagram account and also found an adult website with girls like that. It makes me feel ugly, worthless etc. And I don't even feel comfortable expressing my culture with him. He makes fun of other people's cultures, accents, dances etc. When I play spanish music he looks at me funny. I almost dyed my hair blonde lol. But I stopped myself because I didn't have the moeny. I know what you feel. I'm writing this for any girls that may feel the same way. You are not alone. I will talk to a therapist soon because I have self esteem issues.

As someone with blonde hair, I hate everything about myself. I hate the stereotypes, I hate people calling me "blondie," I hate the songs talking about how perfect girls with blonde hair (and usually blue eyes, which I don't happen to have) are, because I don't feel perfect at all, and I hate people telling me how beautiful my hair is and I hate how people react whenever I mention anything about wanting to cut it/dye it. Me too. This hits hard for me bc my bf is white and im hispanic. He had a crush on my ex best friend (who was blonde/blue eyes) while we dated. Although he never said he had a crush on her, I could tell because he would randomly bring her up in conversation and just by the way he looked at her. I also found a secret Instagram account full of white and STRICTLY blonde girls in bikinis etc on his FYP. He also has texts with his friends about liking more blonde girls and sending videos of them to his friends. Never did I ever see one woman of color.
