A look back at an insane japanese drama from the 80's you've probably never heard of. 3 movies, a bunch of anime, a whole TV series, this show was really big for a few years. I'm sure there's a few moms now that grew up with it that eat Gold Coin chocolates or something. Who' says they don't? Kenny lauderdale (me) breaks down this jdrama as well as the anime from 1987 that was lost media until recently. This is part 2 in the Sukeban series of reviews, the first being sukeban deka which was equally dramatic. This was Megumi odaka of Godzilla fame's first role. She would later play miki Saegusa in a bunch of Godzilla movies. Only in japan would you get a crazy drama like this. Less of a reaction video, more of a retrospective. If you're into doramas with some punch check it out.

Between the death of VHS and cheap, large hard drives we lost a bunch of media. 1983 and 1993 are archived as all hell, 2003, though... it's either at postage-stamp resolution in a realplayer file buried deep in some archive, or was recorded by luck on the far-less-common VHS by somebody, and they probably threw the tape out not long after because whatever show they recorded came out on DVD, and they no longer wanted one with the ad breaks / bits of other shows before and after.

Yeah -- if every copy of this show disappears (or effectively disappears, as it has from the English speaking world), this youtube video will at least exist (pretty sure google's never going to delete content if there's some tiny chance in hell they may one day make a penny off of it). This account would be like those index books from ancient libraries, with the title, author, and synopsis of bunches and bunches of books lost forever.

Little Polish kids report their parents to Kenny for being obscure 80's anime. More American girls were named Kenny in 2022 than were named 80's Anime. So he's already winning that race. But this is only because our Kenny is the True Kenny and abhors vacuuming. And clones. Blech. But ironically would welcome a vacuuming clone. 🤔 That's all you'll put up with. Thanka for making a video on this. I'm a fan of the actress Megum Odaka who played Asuka in the show and I'm also probably one of the few people in the West who has seen it. It's really good, IMO, and I hope to see the whole show subtitled someday. I only own the first DVD set, but got to see the remaining episodes on KZbin (they're probably no longer up). It's interesting to note that of the main stars of that show only Hikari Ishida has continued in the entertainment business until today. Megumi Odaka had a short music career, showed up in some Godzilla films, TV dramas and musicals, but retired after that, though she did return for some conventions like G-Fest. Natsuki Ozawa was in a couple of films and later in some adult video, but then disappeared as far as I know.

Theres another Japanese movie I've seen that's similar to this. It's from 1985 and about female bike gangs and Yukari Usami plays the main girl that defends a private school from a rival gang or something. It's just as violent as this, but I cant for the life of me remember the name of it 😫 I think it had Prima Donna in the name, and I remember my dad had an english dubbed VHS of it 🤔 It would be cool if you covered it, since its definately worth shedding some light on👍🏻

Tying back to Kill La Kill, I'm 95% sure the school uniform was an inspiration for the honnouji academy no star female uniform (what mako wore). The animators at trigger are just the right age to have grown up with those sukeban shows on TV and I wouldn't be surprised to discover more references like that as you keep making delinquent girl media reviews, after all this was zero two's original concept: atamashi.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/DkYT1eIV4AAJY18.jpg Great video as always

No, the entire point of kill la kill was The fact imaishi noticed that fashion and fascism sounds the same in japanese and to be an homage to oldschool animation and animators like kanada. They do draw inspirations from that but that's not the main focus. trigger's works is always riddled with references.
