Mr. Adam Wylde, I distinctly remember when helmet ads were first being introduced and you said that NHL fans were worried this would lead to the jerseys looking like the EU jerseys. You then said that that wouldnt happen and we are all falling for the "Slippery Slope Fallacy." Well, here we are. Now, the jerseys arent EU bad but still. I would like to introduce you to the "Boiling Frog" metaphor: it is based off of the idea that if you place a frog in water and slowly raise the temperature until it starts boiling, the frog will just let it happen and be none the wiser. It starts with helmet and division ads, it ends with EU jerseys.

1:13:00 Vincent Dunn not Vince Dunn 🤣 The trade was a three way trade as well, so Hockeydb has it wrong. Ottawa acquired Ian Cole, Filip Gustavsson, 2018 first-round draft pick, and a 2019 third-rounder for Derrick Brassard, Vincent Dunn and a third in 2018. Brassard was sent to VGK first to retain salary and then shipped to Pittsburgh. Ottawa traded the 2018 pick down 4 spots to get an additional second. NYR picked K. Miller, while Ottawa took Jacob Bernard-Docker & Jonny Tychonick (miss). The 3rd round pick in 2019 was also traded up by the Senators to obtain Mads Sogaard.

Askarov didn't leave Nashville simply because he wanted to play NHL games. After the Saros contract, he saw no chance of becoming the team's starter anytime soon. So, he went to SJ, where he has a better chance of being their guy much sooner. Yes, he'd probably like to be with the Sharks full time, but he's fine playing in the AHL rn because he has a clear path. He's been great for the Sharks and Barracuda so far.

15:00 Alright... lets get some of this BS out of the way about the Senators. In '12-13 Ben Bishop for the Senators had a .922, Lehner had a .936 and Anderson had a .941. They were all good, but the management had to choose to trade one of them because a team really couldn't carry 3 goalies. The next year Lehner and Anderson get injured, thier playoff hopes dwindling until they call up Hammond who saved their season. That flash in a pan season from Hammond gave the Senator brass confidence to trade Lehner and cap dump Legwand for a first overall pick... not too shabby of a return for a backup. After that, Mike Condon (.914, .902), Anders Nilsson (.914, .908), and Marcus Hogberg (.904) all put up decent back ups. Daccord and Gustavsson were solid prospects in the system, however the team lost Daccord to Seattle in the expansion draft and management wanted an experience goalie and all-star in Talbot to replace the oft injured Murray and Gus was the price. Hindsight, Gus would probably be in Europe right now if that trade didn't happen. This season, it's not the defense unless Hamonic is on the ice. Ullmark has let in some horrible soft goals this year (OT against Philly being a stand out) where the team in front of him played extremely well but didn't get the saves. He's slowly turning it around though, hopefully being able to get his and the team confidence back moving forward.
@JubedyАй бұрын
For real, it's really frustrating when people try to use bishop and Lehner as examples of goalies who improved when they left Ottawa. First and least important, both were rookies in Ottawa, they're supposed to improve as they age, but more importantly they were never bad in Ottawa in the first place. Ottawa was stacked in net and unfortunately had to move all of them for one reason or another, but that speaks more to their ability to scout goalies than some idea that the defence has always been bad through multiple completely different defence lineups.
@ScreaminT81Ай бұрын
Are you ok?
@DneilB007Ай бұрын
The problem with a weak defensive system (or poor defensive play with a decent system) is that it makes the goalie not trust the players in front of him and he starts to second-guess things. “They’re not going to stop that low-slot pass, so I’m going to cheat on the pass so I can get there,” which ends up leaving a short-side opening to shoot at. Or maybe you start playing too deep and you allow crossing passes. Or you play too high, and you get caught out of position. You can have good individual defensive play from most of your defencemen but, if they’re not in sync with your goalie, it doesn’t really matter.

That Ekman-Larsson crosscheck was in retaliation to getting slashed in the back of the knee, and if anybody's been slashed there they know how much it can suck, go look up the play again; OEL takes the slash, looks to see who it was and is about to slash back, focuses on the puck instead as TB has a scoring chance, whistle blows, he crosschecks him, gets cross checked 2x harder and the Leafs are somehow the ONLY penalized team.. @@braydenkoons3117 as someone with an outside perspective who doesn’t particularly care about CBJ. No one thinks of Columbus that way, except for people who specifically watch them. Columbus to us is an organization that constantly missteps and is in the middle of a flash in the pan that is 1 injury away from collapse. It’s not surprising that when we see the 2024 4th OA pick having back problems that lead to surgery, losing a Laine trade badly, and trading away a 2022 6th OA pick in 1 summer. The commentators brought up Bedard's poor record and established that he uses a high-flex stick, which he prefers for his incredible shot. It was noted that if he had a stick with less flex, he'd be able to win far more draws. Opponents are just overpowering him on the puck drop, plowing his stick out of the way. Maybe the wing is a better option!
