I mean, I know what it's like to wait for something that's probably never going to come, but this wasn't the project that brought MAPPA to the map. They had hardly any investment in it, money wise, and even something like zombieland saga gave them more money because they were investors in the IP. The real projects that made them who they are for better or worse, that got them to both be known as the overworking studio and as one that delivers, is Jujutsu kaisen and attack on Titan.

Maybe they didn't gain much money wise due to what you've already mentioned BUT they gained A LOT in terms of reputation, and the reputation they gained due to Yuri on ice was what made it possible for them to land projects such as attack on titan or jjk to begin with. Yuri on ice is like that one internship at some reputable company that may not have gotten you much money but is the reason you get hired for every single job you apply for. Aot and jjk are more like the extremely competitive jobs that's extremely sought after and tons of people apply for bc everyone knows you can make bank there. If not for Yuri on ice it would've been a different studio that made AOT and JJK

@@XDGamer88 Pretty sure the trailer for it also released in 2020. My guess tho, personally, is that it's delay is influenced by the Russia-Ukraine war that started in 2022. Viktor Nikiforov is Russian in the anime, and as we've seen from the title and in the trailer, the movie will focus a great deal on his childhood and as a result, on his experience being an aspiring queer ice skating olympian training in Russia. Knowing how Japan treats politics, they might not want anything to do with that, and showcasing Russia in any negative or positive light would be in poor taste. It really doesn't matter that homophobia doesn't exist in their universe, it would still be very awkward to have the majority of the movie take place in Saint Petersburg due to the circumstances. The website for the movie still exists, but it just states that the movie is still in production and that they apologize for the delays. There's also no release date. My best guess is that they are either re-doing major parts of the movie to tip-toe around these circumstances, or polishing up the movie while they wait for whoever to give them the ok to finally release it.

i remember finding this opening on twitter 2 weeks before the first episode aired, i remember coming home from school on fridays to watch the new episode, i remember how episode 7 broke the internet, i remember staying up at night as an 11 year old to read yuri on ice fanfiction. Now i’ve grown up, i’m currently 18 and i still stay up late to read yoi fanfics, still routinely rewatch yuri on ice, still love the show like i did when i was 11. This show meant and still means so much to me i sincerely hope to see an update on yuri on ice.
