The Stuff Mike Does. it is weird, foos are a great band. Yeah their last two albums are pretty bad but their early stuff is really good, probably the best live band and alot of their songs are rooted in punk. Does feel a bit "we're indie so we dont like big bands". Music is subjective at the ned of the day, so i dont really care who they like or not.

I really like this band. Been listening to Brutalism for the past week now. But the whole “I never would choose to listen” to the Foo Fighters thing was so arrogant. And also the “changing our own narrative” for their decision to open for the Foo Fighters is literally the only reason any smaller band supports a bigger band: to reach a bigger audience. It’s arrogant to frame it to be something more special than it is
@taylorpope8235 жыл бұрын
Was it arrogant or was it honesty that we never see with bands in this position?
@thestuffmikedoes23095 жыл бұрын
Taylor Pope I’m not saying it wasn’t honest. In fact, I’d say it IS honest. So let’s say it’s both-they’re not mutually exclusive by any means.
@morgancockram98335 жыл бұрын
I don’t see it as arrogance at all. I think Foo Fighters themselves are fully aware of how they’re perceived by smaller bands in the industry and know that the best thing they can do is give a bigger platform to lesser known talented bands. I think they were just being transparent and honest in how the experience was beneficial for them.
@thestuffmikedoes23095 жыл бұрын
M. HLC we’ll agree that it’s honest. We’ll disagree that it’s not arrogant to make it a point to stress that he would never listen to the band that is essentially handing him exposure and opportunity on a platter. While I understand why he would do this, I don’t see a need for it other than to hold on to some “indie cred”. Lame move-to me. Doesn’t take away from my enjoyment for this band, so hey, that’s good I guess. 👍
@callumsutherland29545 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why people think that any concern for authenticity, any concern over whether they support the band they would be supporting, is either arrogance or pretentiousness -- why is it so outlandish to imagine that IDLES were having a genuine conversation about authenticity and the necessity of admiration in the relationship between headliners and support acts?

I doubt it. You think the Foo's are daft? They know they're not hip. They can see the ocean of graying hair in front of them every night they play. If anything, you want a fresh band like IDLES to step up to the plate and bring a younger demographic back in.
@Tomidsch5 жыл бұрын
Why aren't you able to share the full talk? This is a very interesting insight to a band on the rise who speaks their mind about what can be such a lucrative industry - yet you withhold the full talk? So much valuable information could be taken from this for young, more grassroots projects and bands, (and also for people who have been in the industry for longer) this yet you only share 8 minutes? How do we expect people to progress when honest knowledge and advice isn't shared?
@BIMMMusicInstitute5 жыл бұрын
Hey there. You make a great point about the value of these and it is a shame we can't share them in full, especially this one in particular as the IDLES guys are so great. The main reason is that these masterclasses are something we offer exclusively for our students (most of whom are part of these grassroots projects and bands), but we also only ever have the rights from the bands/artists to share select sections of the talks too. So sharing the full videos is very rarely an option unfortunately... However, for longer form content for all we also have a podcast which we'll be releasing some great new episodes of soon. Hopefully some of the IDLES guys will join on that in the not too distant future! ;)
