The place where I grew up appears in the documentary; the sound of aeroplanes was part of the memories of our school lives ☺️; and Miss Wang and Principal Mok also appaered in the interview... More or less, Miss the old days! (Althought I'm not old enough to make the above comment...🤭)
Thanks TVB for sharing. It was so much easier and less expensive to take a taxi to Kai Tak then. With the completion of bridges + tunnel at Hun Hum area in the 70s, traffic was also less jammed.

never knew the origin of the name kaitak, this footage makes me reminisce about an era I've never lived through, I wish I could've witnessed Hong Kong in its golden years
It's nice to look back while in the silence and comforts of your own home, but I remembered how much the residents and regular fliers hated the airport when it was operational with no end in sight. It was noisy and flights always get delayed because the runways were too small and overcrowded. I still remember very clearly that news reported saying doctors blamed the planes for why the Kowloon City area had the highest number of sick people(based on daily hospital visit statistics), it also spurred multiple studies on how sound caused irreversible damage to health, be it physical or mental. I will always cherish the memories related to the sound, my childhood, my life and old HK. But I'd rather get shot again than to live beneath 24/7 sonic booms.

Kai Tak Airport isn't just a memory for HK people. We remember the brightest period of HK. If HK suffered from the cultural revolution, even Kai Tak airport was there, nothing could happen. HK wouldn't be an international city.
