I can't thank you enough for your list, I've been trying to pick an android box for my brother for several months now, after spending numerous hours each time narrowing down my list to ten boxes, I end up getting overwhelmed by the lack of information and decide to come back the following week. Two-three weeks later, I make another new list, again and again, as I feel lost each time coming back to the selection of saved tabs. To top it off, you have in-depth reviews which cover so much valuable information. I can't say for certain I've found the box I'm getting him yet, but at least now I'm not overwhelmed by a heap of information which was incomprehensible without your hands-on tests.

@@tvboxstop I appreciate you taking the time to reply with more information. Ugoos AM6 Plus and the Beelink GT King Pro were two I looked into against each other. However, even though I had planned on making a plex server dedicated to his needs, I still felt iffy about buying one of the mid-high android boxes if it only streamed Netflix at 480p. That got me to look into X96 Max+ and Magicsee N5 Max, as well as checking out some of the $200+ (AUD) boxes on Aliexpress to see how performance and features scaled. Unfortunately, that put me on a halt as I felt like I was in the same position that I started in not having information on how it supports specific apps. I don't think I recall The TOX1, I'm going to have to look that up IMMEDIATELY. EDIT: Apparently I had already watched your 25-minute video on it, perhaps I didn't consider it in the final cut as it wasn't on your list, I'm unsure. EDIT2: I watched the video another two times today. Did you realise that on your rank chart, you have listed the Tox1 box as not being capable of playing Dolby True HD? I'm making a little comparison list atm.

I hade one of these almost a year ago. I thought I wrote a comment on it before but I guess not. I really liked it because it was fast. But it quite working after a couple of months. If you are going to purchase one of these I highly recommend getting a cooling fan.

Great video review,. Apparently this can also dual-boot with latest CoreELEC. Have you tried this in CoreELEC?, and if so, is the A/V quality the same as in Android, like 4K@60 ... ?

I've downloaded the same atmos demos from Dolby's site and performed that test on my plex (via my roku ultra box) but when I play movies that have dolby atmos, the best I can get is TrueHD 7.1 My question is: Could you run plex on that android box and get dolby atmos by chance or is plex limited to TrueHD 7.1 no matter what? Thank you.

The digital audio output of the TV box is dependent on which media player you are using. I have tested many players in the past and none of them outputs Atmos except the VLC player and Kodi media player. I never used Plex before so sorry about that, but if there is a way to set the default video/media player of Plex to the VLC player you will gate Atmos. But first you have to go into the VLC player settings and enable the audio option to allow audio passthrough. And while you are at it, set hardware acceleration to Full. The same can be done for Kodi if you have that option, but there are also so settings to enable in Kodi if you want to use it. Check it out and let me know

Hello, Great review. I really appreciate your videos. Can you please help me pick a suitable TV BOX for me? My budget is around 40-50$. I want a box that can play most vid/audio formats. I had this box 1 1/2 yr's. The 1st day it got really hot and shutoff. I used a computer fan underneath and worked great until recently. It keep's rebooting randomly. And freeze the screen on different apps. I guess I have no choice but to reset it. I'm gonna try the cords 1st before I do.

from what you described I doubt resetting will make a difference. It appears the box is dying. Try removing the bottom panel and apply the same fan. The bottom panel pops off no screws.

Using Wi-Fi dongle has to be Android compatible. I have tried this in the past and it only seems to work when I install Linux not on Android.

Honestly I have no idea why that showing 2GB of RAM. Never seen a firmware update do that unless two of the RAM modules on the mainboard got damaged which is a possibility.

One box cannot work independently on two separate TVs. If you use an HDMI splitter it will show the same picture on both TVs at the same time.

If you are comparing hardware performance the X96 Max+ is more powerful than the TV stick in terms of hardware performance. On the other hand it all depends on what you value about the TV stick. For example. If you value the Android TV OS interface with Google certification to play premium movie services in HD and 4K, then the fire stick will be better than the TV Box. Not in hardware performance but in the service it provides. It all depends on what you value most official movie services such as Netflix, Disney+, or Amazon prime video, or do you prefer a box that gives you root access and allows you to install your favorite APKs.

Your video just made me realize I've done something wrong with my setup. We are using the same Sony STR-DH790 receiver. I'm using the KZbin app on my Samsung Qled 55" Q6FN. When I play Dolby Atmost videos on KZbin, my receiver never reads Dolby Atmos. It always says PCM. I've changed my receiver sound field from Dolby Surround to Neural-x but still my receiver never displays Dolby Atmos. Would you know how I could fix this? Thank you.

Yes you will not get Atmos if the speaker is set to 2 ch. It must be on multi-channel. Also you have to use HDMI passthrough and not optical audio. i recently learned that you cannot get Atmos and DTS audio via optical audio due to compression issues. So something is wrong with my test, and I discovered that the box auto switches to HDMI for Atmos during my test. So use HDMI passthrough and set the receiver to multi-ch and it will work for you.

My internet speed is 250Mbps so under 5GHz Wi-Fi column 100% means good. Under LAN 100% means it's GB LAN port. The 2.4GHz band most times falls below 100Mbps, but that does not mean that it's bad.

Just got one & found few problems: 1. KZbin (mobile version installed from Googleplay) videos would randomly turned squeezed into 4:3 when put into higher res than 720p. And at higher than 1080p the vids would be messed up green & grey & pixelated as if playing corrupted movie files. Uninstalled & reinstalled also delete data/cache from YT, worked for few vids then got back squeezed & messed up again at higher res. However Vanced is fine at any resolution. What to do? 2. USB 3.0 can't read any externals but it can be used for wireless mini keyboard. USB 2 is fine. This is a bit of a bummer since one of the reasons I bought this was to replace my old HK1 Super box which both USB ports started to be unreliable, sometines they recognize externals sometimes not (both ports were fine before). 3. Right now Im turning it off since bluetooth keep searching for my headphones that just lost connection. Earlier I restarted the box, but didnt fix the prob, bt kept on searching. I couldn't seem to turn the bluetooth off; on settings it doesnt have bluetooth settings where I could turn it on & off, it only have "remotes & accessories' that would instantly search devices when clicked. I did find the button to turn the bluetooth on & off via 'more settings' on droid settings but the button didnt really work it wont stay turned off. Also when the pairing works via settings > remotes & accessories, it doesnt show the % of the battery of the devices. Hk1 Super (also on Android 9) does way better at this, never have any problems with bluetooth. Have you encountered these problems & know any solutions? Thx!

The short answer is no, and it's not because these problems don't exists. It's because I no longer have this box as I sold it many months ago. Sorry about that, but I just can't keep so many boxes.

OK I just tested it and I tried formatting a 64GB SD to shared internal storage and failed. So as removable storage it works fine, but as shared internal storage it does not work.

You are using the chart to determine which box is right for you. But the chart only represents hardware performance. Features are a personal preference. A box could have a lower chart placement and all the features you need, does not make it a poor performing box. it all boils down to what you want the box to do for you with smooth handling without overheating. So you a good to go with the KM1 it's not a bad performing box.

Yes it is but a little secret pop off the bottom cover. The ventilation holes are too small and it causes over heating. If you pop off the cover (no screws) even apply a fan if you want, temps will remain in the 40s - 50s during gaming. That's a fact. It's got an HDMI 2.1 port so picture and graphics look really smooth and good.

It will work if you choose streams between 500MB and 1GB. 480p -720p for APK streaming. You will still get the occasional buffering. I am running 250Mbps and still get some buffering. 50Mbps on premium apps like Netflix works perfectly with out buffering because Netflix have powerful servers like KZbin. 60Mbps to 100Mbps is sort of the budget sweet spot speed for streaming.

Yes luckily I still have this box in my archive. So just a while ago I connected a 4 TB external hard drive using a self powered SATA adapter, and the box recognize it and I was able to copy a video file to and from the drive.

Don't change if you are happy with your Vankyo the X96 max+ as more power on the CPU and GPU but it depends on what you need it for. Streaming is the same, 4K playback may be a little better, but the real difference is in the gaming performance.

That is usually an Internet speed and IPTV server issue. If the service is using Mac address to connect to their servers then the service will work much better. If you are using an application with a username and password, those tend to get bottlenecked in traffic.

@@tvboxstop I am using an extension cable and I am aware how power cords work. The TV box I have has a very short power cable. They can make the power cables at least 50% longer without losing power and they can use higher quality cable which will cause less power loss over distance. My extension cable is two foot away from my TV on the right dide and with the short HDMI cable included with the box the box is dangling behind the TV. I know I could use a longer HDMI lead but I want to hide the box behind my TV which is on the wall over my fireplace.
