Thank you Lord Jesus, it's good to hear Fr Mark talk directly from scripture... All priests read the Bible but it seems they are only allowed few minutes to explain scripture to us. It's a blessing for Fr Mark to make time to teach from scripture for more than six minutes. God bless all

Yes that is how wonderful Our God is to let himself be known as our Father, Our God, and Our creator

I am so happy to hear you give this homily. You are one of the ONLY Catholic priests I have ever heard who expresses the importance of reading scripture. Most just stress reading the catechism, and the saints; but they never place any importance at all in reading and finding out what the Bible actually says. I was raised Anglican, which is very similar, and have gone to Catholic mass hundreds (if not a thousand) of times. I've heard ministers or some priests online talk about being filled with the Holy Spirit, and being born again, or it's link to understanding the Bible, but I've never heard it in any sermon I actually attended. It's important because, as it says in the Bible, " the scripture is foolishness to the natural ( or carnal) man. It must be spiritually discerned". It's one of the hallmarks of being filled with the Spirit or being " born again. " All of a sudden, you have a different relationship with God, and you have a strong desire to read the Bible. I spent my whole life going to church. I was a layreader, on Stewardship committees, etc. I have been reading the Bible since I was 10, and I'm over 50 now. I did know the scriptures on an intellectual level, but it wasn't until I was "born again", that I really had a craving to read the Bible all the time. I can remember the first time I read the book of John after being filled with the Holy Spirit; it was exactly how he describes it. It was like I had never read it before! The words practically jumped off the page, and for the first time ever( I was 45), I understood it! It's important for people to understand this, because most priests will never mention it at all. In 45 years of sermons, I never really noticed that I wasn't filled with the Spirit. I had read Jesus talking about how "You must be born again" , but I always assumed, along with my sister and my parents, that if you were baptized as an infant, and you went to church, that you were already born again. I thought being filled with the Spirit or being saved, only applied to people who didn't go to church. I automatically assumed, like many others I've talked to about this, that as long as you were baptized and you attended mass, you would go to Heaven. It wasn't until I had a spiritual experience and was born again, that I even realized there was anything missing. I thought if you went to church, you were automatically going to Heaven. I'm so glad that you talk about these things.

3:35 Yes! It's the only time it happens- either reading the Bible or reading a book that has a Christian message. No other good read has such a profound effect on me.
