A few months ago I was without a job and saw on Facebook a local florist was hiring designers and was willing to train people with no experience. I applied and was offered an interview where at the end they wanted me to create an arrangement. At that moment I realized… I had no idea how to actually arrange flowers. So I searched KZbin for tutorials and found your videos! I watched them and practiced a few arrangements at home with clearance grocery store flowers and it gave me so much more confidence in the interview. I ended up getting the job, and our owner jokes that I’ve been designing for 60 years! Thank you so much for posting these videos!

Hello Isabelle, how is your experience if you still working there, its hard? In which state are you working for? How is the winter affecting your job because the cold weather? are you working in a business or in a warehouse? I want to apply for a job but I'm not sure, I love flowers but I'm not a designer...

Seriously good stuff: Flowers are all about water & hydration! 1. Submerge whole flowers for full hydration 2. Spray Crowning Glory (wax prevents floral dehydration) 3. Bleach drops (2-3) in vase kill the bacteria 4. cut an inch off stems every 3 days 5. Don't remove rose thorns!!! 6. Protect the bark & remove the leaves, which cause the bacteria in water. 7. Cross to the left, Turn to the right x REPEAT

I went to floral design school years ago. I was so excited as it was my dream to become a floral designer/florist. Well long story short, my educational experience really didn't prepare me for the real world. I wish I had this gentleman for a teacher. He is genius and makes designing clear. I gave up on my dream and went back to medicine, but I am inspired to begin again at least as a personal pleasure. I love flowers!

1:39 How do you get flowers to last longer? 1) submerge the flowers in water. 2) Spray with crowning glory by flora life 3) add 3-4 drops of bleach to the water. 4) Cut a few inches off the stem every 2-3 days. 3:25 Classic European hand tie bouquet.

Hi. i appreciate your design method. I have been a floral designer for 27 yrs. I was always taught after greening in that the first flower should be the tallest. To achieve a line. Then work the other flowers one lower to the right of the line the other lower to the left of the line. Then the focal. Then the fillers. An experienced designer can arrange without turning the vase. To us experienced designers...flower placement just becomes natural and easy.
@tulipo69072 жыл бұрын
Incorrect. U should always rotate your vase. Large flowers in first at the focal point. Come for free class

I agree. I worked for this florist who was an absolute tyrant. He hired me in October and the day after Christmas he said to me "you said you had experience when you started but I haven't noticed it yet" and he fired me. He hired me for the holidays and didn't have the decency to tell me that and berated me instead. He had a nasty reputation in the area and is now out of business.

I was a florist for 20 years and did our hand ties like this the whole time. Tied them with soft ribbon, not wire. Also conditioned all my stock before we put them in stock vases and then made our hand tie bouquets. Seems strange to tie them with wire when it could easily damage soft stems.. Best way to test the florists skill was to see if it would stand on its' own at end.. He's a good teacher but conditioning is hugely important prior to making bouquets in my humble opinion... 🌸 💐
@marthadiaz9725 Жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for the info. Are the florists' hands hurt too much? the skin and nails? Do you have to work in low temperature conditions? I ask if you have to keep the temperature low for the quality of the flowers, is that true? Why you left this job?

I have watched this part of the video four times and I still don't get how you did the wiring - the twirling, yes but not how you wrapped the wire around that huge handful of stems. Too bad you couldn't re-do that part. Any suggestions? Loved the video though. Great information.
@brianajohnsen55286 жыл бұрын
Martha Houshar gravity is cinching the wire together. The twirl is equivalent to twisting a bread tie to close the bag on your bread. Id suggest wrapping the wire aroynd about 3 times, when the ends are side by side, gently tug on them to tighten, and twist like your bread tie. The twirl is just a show

Anything special added to the water when submerging the entire flower? I am assuming tepid water temp; not hot or cold. Length of time to keep flowers submerged? Should this technique be used on greenery also? I always use bleach when cleaning out flower buckets, but use an antiseptic "mouth wash" in the actual water in which the flowers are stored in in the cooler. Also do you recommend storing mums in separate coolers to prevent "aging" of other cut flowers?
