A sad statement on the spiritual, intellectual and political education of the American people of the time. It is purported that McCarthy had a past. In a country and time when so many thought they were Christian there certainly was a lot of judgment going on. Of course we mustn't see the faults of others without loving them as ourselves. Merry Christmas all. ❤

ahah ! gay ploryamorous ? PFFF. Imagine many things, even incongruous things. Nothing wrong with loving a gay man, but he can't love you the same way. just like a relative. we're all about the guys, but i feel for Hawkin's wife. they love each other, but he loves her like a sister; and his son is different too and already trapped in a lie in a early age.

@CO 20/20 for your eyesight. Points for his marital duties accomplished. Zero for psychology. just because he was able to perform doesn't change a thing. He loves her like a sister or pillar of hope. She's the corsnerstone of his new fake life, for a few months at least. He values her a lot, likes her a lot. that used to be the miracle recipe in the 19th century..I kinda married my husband for the same reasons and what a surprise, it didn't work. I still value "my best friend".

3:39 My personal interpretation of that moment was: Tim came to the hospital, all fired up, SO angry at Hawk for what he did (and rightfully so). Angry enough to confront him even though he *knows* Hawk’s wife had JUST given birth. But then… But then he lays eyes on that baby and he is shook to his core. He has a moment of profound realization that he cannot blow up this child’s family and ruin his life. The baby is innocent. Tim can’t hurt him like that. (Side note: This scene makes Tim’s scenes with Jackson when he’s older at the cabin, hit that much harder.. 😢).

What an amazing interview! I had tears in my eyes watching these gifted actors speak about their roles and pivotal moments in the series. The interviewers questions were thought provoking and excellent..❤ I can relate so much to the 1970s period shown in the series, as I lived in San Francisco in that time period as a teen, and was very close to the emerging and vibrant gay LGBT community there. Even down to the scene where the two actors were dancing at the night club with the other men with their tops off; this was exactly how it was; wild and free and expressive and a safe space to do so at that time. AIDS was only beginning to emerge then and had not begun to take its terrible toll on members of this community and others. Kudos to all involved in bringing this beautiful love story to life from the timeless novel. May the people’s names on the quilts and all the others lost to AIDS never be forgotten. Love is love no matter what sexual orientation…❤❤

This was a phenomenal show. The slow dance scene was so epic and Tim looking thru the window at Jackson in the Nursey. His facial expression was all you needed. You knew what he was thinking..the hopes of what he had for Hawk and him were over! I believe Hawk did what he did in hopes that Tim would "hate" him and let him go. But, Tim said it perfectly at the end.."Most of my life, I waited for God to love me. But what matters the most, is that I love God. It's the same with you. I have loved you my entire life!" I can relate to this SO much. This mirrors so well something that happened to me a long time ago, to a lesser degree, but the same nevertheless.

I think he was overwhelmed with joy to see that new life come from Hawk. Jackson for All intents and purposes was his step son. That was clearly shown in ep 6, w. How effortlessly they fell in with each other. And even when Hawk and Skip were talking about Jackson while he was sleeping off the LSD, they looked like a family. Skip might not have been there all the time physically but he was always there, in Hawk's ❤. So he was a part of the Fuller family TOO.

The way they are both choking back tears when talking about their characters, shows how deeply they felt for them. The show is truly a work of art and devotion and has opened a new page to portrayal of gay intimacy. It's evident Matt and Jonny have immersed themselves fully in this in order to achieve the vulnerability and closeness Tim and Hawk deserved. The authenticity and verisimilitude they brought to every scene in this - whether it came to sex, grief, regret, pain, power dynamics, were absolutely mind-blowing. The interviewer asked many of the questions I've been pondering as well. The scene of Hawk and Tim dancing, chest to chest, hip to hip- so connected in every sense- was the epitomisation of their love for me. It was such a poignantly vulnerable image and brilliant depiction of queer love as pure and wholesome and real. Then, I loved Jonathan's interpretation of the scene where Tim cries when he sees Jackson. It resonates with me and answers my own question as to what could've been running through his character's mind at the time. Lastly, Hawk's confession at the end- it gutted me- but Matt put it brilliantly. Hawk now understood the cost of compartmentalising his life- he lost his one great, all-consuming love. He really was a baby now on the journey to discovering and accepting himself. But I do think Tim always knew Hawk loved him. There were multiple scenes where Hawk alluded to it in both word and action. The public kiss at the banquet- initiated by Hawk, something he never would have done in the past- was his declaration of love back to Tim. But he made it easy, as per Tim's request, and he finally let go. He placed Tim's needs above his own, being unselfish for once in his life. That was love. Ugh! This was a brilliant series. Congratulations to the cast; I hope Fellow Travelers wins all the awards!

The baby: Is a loss of a dream. The dream that these men could in fact ever have a "real" life (a family, be together). This baby confirmed that Hawk and Tim were done and that they could never have that (and how sad that they couldn't have a baby/future). The innocence of this baby and the world it might grow up in. @@olubukonla7352 yes but we could go back and blame hawk's father for treating him as poorly as He did over his sexuality, and then the blame could go further and further back through the family link until it's hardly trackable anymore and that would get exhausting. the lying hawk was doing clearly did not do jackson justice or any favours, but he reacted to the deceit and coldness he felt at home in his own, damaging ways and we can understand why he'd have grown up to do that; it's a lot harder for people to do the same sort of thing with hawk, so this isn't personal toward you necessarily, it's just that there's been a hugely repulsed reaction to his behaviour as a father (let alone a person, but that could take Years to unpack), despite how well the show lays out so many of the ways that hiding himself and lying about it was already necessary for his survival before he ever had kids of his own, and long before living your Truth was even all that plausible an option for LGBT people. if you weren't actively arrested if discovered, you'd have been completely shunned unless you were lucky enough to know the right people at the very least, both actors talked freely and from a deep place of understanding in this video about the corruptive structures that forced the characters they're playing (and in their cases, completely BODYING) to make these horrible choices to get by and it could be worth it to take what they've got to say on that to heart, just as actors who've given performances you must've enjoyed enough to be here talking about the show like this or as people within the present LGBT community looking back on a period that was so repressive for those that came before them; there's value in that

I think that Tim seeing Jackson not only let him know Hawk would never be his in the ways that count, it also made him realize that Hawk would continue using him as often as he could. Tim's innate empathy also plays a part. He would NEVER intentionally harm the kids, whereas Hawk was always centering his own needs to the detriment of everyone who loved him. I think Tim seeing newborn Jackson in the hospital also added a layer to Tim's brief interaction with Jackson at the cabin. Tim needed to protect Jackson from Hawk. AGAIN. I'm also not convinced that Hawk was HIV negative. His reply to Marcus was totally sus!

Yes! Tim counseling Jackson in the cabin allowed for Tim to gift Hawk an understanding of his son and helped Tim pivot from the seminary to becoming an openly gay activist/ counselor. Jackson transitioned Tim & Hawk's relationship into a less sexual more caring one. In another world Hawk would have reached out to Skippy to help Jackson.

It was interesting hearing their take on the finale. They’re both such gifted actors and I can’t imagine the vulnerability required to film those scenes. Certainly a vulnerability I’ve never gotten close to. That nude dancing scene was the deepest level of intimacy I’ve ever seen depicted between two men on television. I’ve never been in love or felt that close to any man that I’ve dated over the past 20 years, but that scene is exactly what I imagine had I ever met someone and felt so intensely for them. Overall, it was such a great and tragic love story.

I believe in the moment of the dance, Hawk hadn't yet made up his mind. He was blissful. But it's somehow tragic, that in the moment that Tim says, I'm happy with the little breadcrumbs that you will give me, I will make no drama. Hawk destroys everything -again.

And how hilarious you call it unpunished while Marcus, Frankie and Mary all suffered yet they got paid back for their conscience for standing for their faith, supporting Tim and doing the right thing. And Hawk suffered from him own choices, his pay back being he lose every single one he cares except his daughter. The show writers clearly criticised the oppressive moves against lgbt+ community in the most fierce way, is that not obvious or ppl are just being oblivious.

@@MrsNanaBlueNotice the nuances of his facial expression at the end of the scene. He sure wasn’t blissful all the time, something is up on his mind. He knew at the time joy like this won’t last long when Tim started fantasising.

OmGosh. Just watched the finale & I’m in pieces. That slow-dancing scene had me in tears!!!! I need to pull myself together because it’s 2am & I’m getting up for work in 4 hours. Awww, that scene with Tim looking at newborn Jackson is so powerful too. I’m not surprised that both Matt & Jonathan were emotional when talking about it. I could sit down & write an essay on this series. It has been wonderful & will stay in my mind for a very long time ❤❤❤

I thought it was just me, excellent series but the finale episode had me in tears and found me needing to pull myself together. The slow dancing scene, Tim seeing Jackson, and Hawk finally coming to terms with who he is was so powerful, I was left speechless. Brilliant writing and brilliant casting, and exquisite acting!💯

@@breal9028 Yes! Although the ending was devastating I felt that Tim knew for sure that Hawk loved him deeply because Hawk’s actions in the 1980s proved this. Actions definitely speak louder than words, but the romantic in me would have loved to see Hawk declaring his undying love to his Skippy. The final scene with Hawk telling his daughter his true feelings was just beautiful! I am also relieved that I didn’t have to watch a death scene. The ending was so so sad, but it was good to see Hawk finally being able to feel his emotions with the support of his child 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️

@@erichsalreto9567 Those days were so so difficult for people. Many of us in modern times are so privileged to be able to live our authentic lives, but in some parts of the world many people are still not free. I’m hoping that this show will have a huge impact on people who have maybe been unaware of the difficult lives that some people have led (and are still leading in some cases) 🥹

I feel like Tim was such a treasure and all through the series I was clenching in my stomach, wishing if he could be protected from the entanglement he was in with Fuller. I felt like, He could have been someone's Tim, Haukins made him his skippy and just left him... He was such a nice innocent boy...

What adds to the heart wrenching love story intertwined with politics thriller, is the fact that too many are attempting to knuckle drag USAll BACK into another Lavender scare period of intolerance of "others". Learn from history and support moving forward, away from intolerance and darkness...

This series was so healing to watch. Even though Hawk & Tim's love story is central & so beautiful, the love story of Frankie & Marcus is also very poignant & touching. Juxtaposed to Tim & Hawk they actually achieved a level of acceptance, truth & stability. Esp with the addition of Jerome they were able to share a type of family. I also love that the black male queer experience is highlighted, the only thing missing was some black lesbians.

The Frankie/Marcus/Jerome storyline is an addition to the original Thomas Mallon novel, as is the Mary/Caroline thread. Creator-showrunner Ron Nyswaner did a fantastic job of expanding the scope of the original story.

I LOVED the series but it was a toxic relationship and Hawk was so selfish and abusive towards Tim however, the ending scene really rocked me and made me sob for the fact that he never ever said i love you to Tim. Seeing him confessing his love, honouring Tim's memory and FINALLY living his truth was just magnificent.

This was a tough series for many of us because we lived it. Some fully and some, like me, partially. I lost my one true friend in 2009 having believed we had both made it unscathed through nearly twenty years of the crisis. The way in which the art direction was approached in this series was masterful and the cast equally amazing with their handling of the content. Well done, Matt and Jonny.
