Route of the brothers Franz and Toni Schmid... 1200 meters of ice and mixed snow from the Matterhorngletscher, exceptional conditions... Franz and Toni undertook their plan to climb the Matterhorn in 1931, they cycled from Munich to Zermatt, carrying their equipment. The north face of the Matterhorn was conquered on July 31 and August 1, 1931... Respect... Thanks to Rémi Peschier, Alexandre Marchesseau, Yorick Vion, François Marie, Luc Mongellaz, Benjamin Ribeyre... Round trip via Zermatt, Furi, Schwarzsee, Hörnlihütte.

I did this in the summer of 1985... with only old ice and lots of unconsolidated rocks. Insecure but technically straightforward. This looks much more like a north face should!
