We had to do this at school and both English as well as Te Reo Maori. It was a part of the school curriculum even back then.

Any language must be spoken by all young people, or this one gonna die in a generation, unfortunately speaking. For example, Walloon language has a population over 600,000, but almost all young Wallonians can't ever speak and hear this local language well at all, as their grandparents have been all forced to speak Parisian (French) only at any official places.

E Ihowā Atua, O ngā iwi mātou rā Āta whakarangona; Me aroha noa Kia hua ko te pai; Kia tau tō atawhai; Manaakitia mai Aotearoa Men of every creed and race, Gather here before Thy face, Asking Thee to bless this place, God defend our free land. From dissension, envy, hate, And corruption guard our state, Make our country good and great, God defend New Zealand. Waiho tona takiwā Ko te ao mārama; Kia whiti tōna rā Taiāwhio noa. Ko te hae me te ngangau Meinga kia kore kau; Waiho i te rongo mau Aotearoa May our mountains ever be Freedom's ramparts on the sea, Make us faithful unto Thee, God defend our free land. Guide her in the nations' van, Preaching love and truth to man, Working out Thy glorious plan, God defend New Zealand. God of Nations at Thy feet, In the bonds of love we meet, Hear our voices, we entreat, God defend our free land. Guard Pacific's triple star From the shafts of strife and war, Make her praises heard afar, God defend New Zealand.

Such an epic version of our beautiful anthem, New Zealand was already an incredibly progressive country by this point but this really helped heal the country after the Sprinboks tour of the early 1980's.

This song is worthy of being played in the courtroom. This song represents Godzone. Our Chiefs belong to the first country that married the whole world. That's why it's called GODZONE. New Zealand is the first multicultural country in the world, the whole galaxies and the whole universe.

My favorite version of the NZ national anthem. Annie Crummer's vocals are amazing. The arrangement and production values (including the videography) are top notch. Props to all involved -- this was awesome. If I was viewing late night TV, I'd always watch this finale before going to bed, and I still love it, great to find it again on KZbin !!

The audio quality is great, it's just a pity the same can't be said about the video quality. The original TVNZ video had superb quality that I wanted to share with my relations in UK, but by the time I could afford the equipment, the opportunity was gone.

I'm hoping that the TVNZ archives have this that they might let out to share. The original video quality matched with audio would be epic to see again.

Somebody should actually film some actual New Zealand footage in excellent 1080p HD, just in case I feel like editing a modern day version of this brilliant startup/closedown sequence - or maybe I'll take some HD stock footage.
@europe865 жыл бұрын
Stephen Emmett Great idea! With drones these days we are spoilt for choice getting some similar shots as used in the original! Wish someone would do a new video version to this classic soundtrack!
@stephenemmett97535 жыл бұрын
@@europe86 Correct. Maybe in 4K Ultra HD for the master and they might just broadcast it at the start-up sequence proper of TVNZ One's 50th anniversary day (June 1, 2025)... or maybe even their 45th next year!
@europe865 жыл бұрын
@@stephenemmett9753 What would also be pretty awesome would be if someone tried to get a shot by shot replica of the original footage as close as one can. I would help fund such an exercise if someone had the resources to do that!
@stephenemmett97535 жыл бұрын
@@europe86 Let's do that, shall we? Maybe we could start a short project to get it completed by June 1st, 2020, with help from those who have such equipment, e.g. drones!
@stephenemmett97535 жыл бұрын
@@europe86 Like I've said... imagine this, just before six minutes to the start of TVNZ One's broadcast on June 1st, 2020 or 2025... then the fade out. Black screen. An announcer: "This is TVNZ One, welcoming you to our 45th (or 50th) anniversary celebrations. First this." Cue the newly produced (by us) version of this clip. And then our startup sequence.
