I swapped my 2019 Hyundai I10 for a new Aygo X last year. Whilst the I10 had a little more space, mine was terribly unreliable with electrical issues, a failed clutch release bearing and a engine fault which almost stranded me in Germany. It was also expensive to service with the dealer. So far I'm loving the Aygo X (Edge Manual), it has a lot more kit than the Hyundai (the adaptive cruise is a brilliant feature), I prefer the higher driving position and the engine is more frugal too (61mpg over my 8,000 miles so far). And I can rest in the peace of mind that it's a Toyota, with a very proven, if a little underpowered, engine. I've had it into Europe too, where it coped well, and I find the seats very comfortable for long journeys.

I just thought have I already commented the Video?!😅 I swaped my brandnew i10 nline for a nearly base AygoX. After just 7000km‘s the Hyundai had a broken Turbo and a broken clutch…and something broke on the drivers seatbelt…now im a Little much slower but I know it will Never fail me! Greetings from Germany ✌️
@gravemind65362 ай бұрын
The fact the engine is more frugal when it was designed in the mid 2000s and in a car that sits higher and is far less aerodynamic should come as a big L to Hyundai the previous Aygo was far better than the Aygo X besides muh kit and high driving poisition.
@jdmguy443 ай бұрын
It might look a bit pricey at first but it will look like great value 15 to 20 years down the line when it's still running sweetly and all you've done is serviced it routinely and swapped a few consumables. Aygos are really great little workhorses. People don't see the bigger picture when it comes to cost.....

And that's the good thing about Toyota's they will go on and on and on. Reliable and decent.
@gravemind65362 ай бұрын
Yeah but so will a 2016 model which gets better fuel economy, zero VED and has tyres that cost less than £50. The weird wheel/tyre combo means tyres on the Aygo X cost £150 each. The engine and gearbox will be solid as ever obviously nothing has changed since 2006 in that respect. It's just the electronic rubbish like AEB and Lane Assist etc have ruined it. The Aygo X also handles poorly in comparision and in an effort to compensate they stiffened the suspension it's not a well balanced nor comfortable car to drive in compared to a normal Aygo but the one advantage is despite actually being bigger the turning circle is sharper as the tall wheels mean it's possible for the wheels to turn further. I drove one for a day and I have had the normal Aygo as a courtesy car I prefer the old normal style one.

Keep your Yaris don't spunk the money on a new car. If you want an Aygo get a 2016 It's where the Aygo peaked as an all round package and it has zero VED tax.

Its much more philosophical review than actual review of AygoX for these types of cars(which Rebecca missed, IMO). Toyota has wider(including Lexus) range of cars on every continent than any other manufacturer, and AygoX is just extension to this. Open the hood, check the suspension components, etc. And compare with mk8 VW Golf and you will see higher production quality still with AygoX(but built to a price point). Compare that with 10y warranty, all safety equipment as standard and great suspension and mobility in cities, its better car for intended purpose than most other cars on the road INCLUDING the price. I live in Zagreb, Croatia and my long term speed average is 21km/h last 7, 8 years, and I travel highways quite often. Which goes to show people WANT more expensive cars but rarely they actually have engineering need for them. But I've lived with many more expensive(and less expensive cars) and reviewing them on their intended purpose compared to price they ask is how its measured. However, 2024 Suzuki Swift up to 5 years of ownership might be more "enthusiast" choice IMO.

With all the reduction in these little cars being made, it looks like we are being encouraged, or should I say coerced, to go electric! Sorry, but here’s one guy that won’t be-ever! You can stick ‘em where the sun don’t shine as far as I’m concerned! I’m gonna buy a brand new combustion engine car the day before they stop selling them!

@@jeremyharker1575 You’re absolutely right. From discussions that I’ve had with friends etc, I don’t think we’re the only ones either. Too expensive to buy, either new or secondhand. Poor, or no infrastructure at all. Price of batteries is absolutely ludicrous to say the least. They are too quiet for another thing. The amount of times that one has ‘crept’ up on me without me knowing about is ridiculous! I think the cost of running them will eventually be enormous, whatever they tell you now. Finally, a lot of leased cars are now electric. If a new lease car costs say £50,000 and is leased out for 3 years, it’s value will plummet down to about £25,000 once those 3 years have elapsed. The cost of replacing the battery, if and when it needs replacing, will be at least half the cost of that vehicle. During the winter months, the battery is going to drain even more often., needing more and more recharging. Don’t know about you, but I haven’t got the time to be continually charging up an EV battery at about 40-60 mins per time! The secondhand EV market will become worthless!

@cr100013 ай бұрын
I had an Aygo X as a rental. Not a fan of the styling, like most modern cars view to the rear was deficient but it had a good large reversing screen. Comfortable seating position for the driver, good feel to the 5-speed manual box, a proper handbrake lever, extremely tight turning circle, it felt quite at home in country lanes, and it got over 55mpg - what's not to like? On the motorway you needed to change down into 4th early on a hill to hold 70mph but that's what driving is about, isn't it? (I mean, managing the power and the gears, not motorways!). YES a turbo would be fun, but it's adding an extra source of complications and probably earlier failures a few miles down the track. (For the same reason I wouldn't touch the CVT 'automatic' version, I don't care how good Toyota are, CVT is diabolical. Unless it's what Toyota misleadingly call 'eCVT' which is a different thing entirely, but I'd still go for the manual, every time).
@gravemind65362 ай бұрын
The normal Aygo before this X version is far better as an economy car though. One basic thing that illustrates this perfectly is the tyres. A full set of tyres on a normal Aygo is £200 it's £600 on the X version because of the silly wheels which give you the insane turning circle. Ask yourself this is that turning circle worth £400 lets say for arguements sake every 40,000 miles? The drivetrain is perfect as it was back in 2005 nothings changed there. The pre 2017 Aygo got £0 VED a year too. If I was buying an Aygo I would get a 66 plate mid spec model it would make perfect sense but each to their own. You seem a sensible person who would research this stuff anyway unlike most people.

I just dont understand city cars. They are so expensive and offer so little. The concept really only makes sense to me if you are so disgustingly rich and want a toy for the city. If you are limtied to only one car it makes no sense to me. If you can only have the one car this is already expensive. But it offers such little value for money. So it just makes more sense to buy used or buy a bigger, more usable car. I dont even understand why they bother having rear doors and seats when its so impractical. How many people spend their entire time in the city at all times to justify these cars?

@gravemind65362 ай бұрын
It has gained 4hp since the drivetrain first released back in 2005. What's ruined the car is jacking up the ride height and giving it giant skinny wheels with £150 tyres, overly stiff suspension and poor handling combined. What also ruined it is the fact it is slower and worse on fuel than the outgoing version. The only and only good thing about the new one is the turning circle is much tighter thanks to the stupidly tall wheels.
