Great video! So, just for my understanding, it sounds like something occurs between the "m" and the "a" when you're singing "ma". You're starting with the nasal sound of "m", which means air is passing through nasal port, but you're using this to establish your resonance/placement. Then when you get into the "a", the soft palate rises and blocks off air to the nasal port, and now your sound is coming only through your mouth but is still resonating in the place the "m" was resonating? If so, this causes me some confusion with the "bratty nay" exercise that so many other singing teachers recommend in order to practice twang. I quite literally cannot do a bratty nay without it being fully nasal.

You are right on, and that is such a great question. In the exercise you’re referring to, have you tried plugging your nose once you open from the n into the vowel? My suggestion would be to slow it down and sustain the sound. Partway through sustaining the vowel, plug your nose. If there’s no change in sound, then you are actually not singing nasal. But I know that it does sound really really nasal and very bright. But that’s actually just excessive twang. Does that make sense?

Thanks . I would like to watch a video about thinning out the voice. My headvoice is too heavy. I'm carrying too much chestvoice to higher notes. I'd appreciate if you could make a video about that.

Oh my gosh, do I feel you on that! That was my struggle for a long time too. I’m on maternity leave at the moment, but I will absolutely add that to my list for when I’m back.
