1976 Cotton Bowl (#10 Arkansas vs. #11 Georgia)

Highlight reel from the 1976 Cotton Bowl between the #10 SWC Champion Razorbacks and the #11 Bulldogs. Arkansas would roll to a 31-10 victory for their first Cotton Bowl win since 1965. The Hogs finished the year 10-2 and #7 while Georgia finished 9-3 and #19.

I was at that game. I had a hotdog and a Royal Crown Cola. The sky was blue and my dad stared a lot at the cheerleaders.

I was 11 and I remember watching the game on TV with my Dad at our home in Amarillo, TX. Arkansas had smashed undefeated and #2 ranked Texas A&M to reach the Cotton Bowl in a December showdown on ABC! Including the Cotton Bowl, Arkansas had played in back to back national TV broadcasts at a time when that was very rare! For the rest of the school year I wore my Arkansas Cotton Bowl T-shirt every week to school! My SWC buddies had to endure it! I believe legendary Texas Tech radio broadcaster Jack Dale is the narrator of the film.

In modern football, at 2:20 that would of been a late hit, and targeting. Followed by an ejection of the player, and a 15 yard penalty, and automatic first down Georgia. I'm a true Arkansas fan. I love these old games. Just pointing out the differences in today's game, and real football.

Approximately eight years later, Georgia STUNNED # 2 Texas in the Cotton Bowl by recovering a muffed Punt Return at the Texas 17 Yard Line setting the Dogs up for a go ahead TD with little time left in the game robbing the Horns of a shot at the National Championship!

I was at this game also, I remember right before the half, we were down 10-0 and things got wild. Hal McAfee was later a Professor of mine at Henderson State University.

Some of that music is Sam Spence, NFL Films music and some I have heard on this video for the 1st time. I love it. I played once with the Arkansas Razorback Band [french horn] and I felt like I WAS SOMEBODY. Memories...

I was at that game just before going back to college for my final semester (no, not at UA). My youngest sister was dating Gary Bull, a teammate of mine in HS and cousin of Scott Bull. We enjoyed that game and the trip to Dallas!

Jerry Eckwood was in my philosophy class. His girlfriend rubbed his neck for the entire period. The professor didn't say a word. And another claim to fame that same year was when Lou Holtz angrily asked me to hurry my call on a payphone in a bar called LJ's.

Arkansas beat Georgia in a 1969 Bowl game. Heartbreaking for me as a kid. I was a big Georgia fan. I think it was The Sugar Bowl, but could have been The Cotton Bowl. Razerbacks were a powerful squad in '69, also.
