Music, older than any of us, performed just like this by generations, enjoyed by audiences just like this for generations. Russian choral singing has very interesting historical outlines. A large number of works are written for bass parts. This song was written for a soloist - bass profundo. This is due to the fact that in Russian churches, the clerk with the lowest voice was selected to sing the main church hymns and psalms. The very plot of such songs often tells a tragic or sad story. The traditions of bass parts have also passed into the classical music of Russian composers. Without them, the world genius of Fyodor Chaliapin would not have been revealed at the beginning of the 20th century.

At a time when most young people listen to rap, it’s already great. If his orchestra had not performed this ballad, most foreigners would never have heard this work. My daughter & I saw the orchestra in Boston 2 years ago, it was a true dream of a lifetime for me. My daughter was 27 at the time and didn’t know his music but replaced my husband because he had to work. She was so happy she took her Dad’s place, she absolutely loved it✝️❤️

This is a song about a repentant robber, to the based on poems of Russian poet Nikolai Nekrasov "The Legend of the twelve Robbers", music by N.A. Manykin-Nevstruev. You can also listen to this song performed by Russian singers or the boys' choir of the Glinka Choral School :) Lirics: There lived twelve robbers, There lived a Kudeyar ataman. The robbers spilled a lot The blood of honest Christians! (chorus): Let us pray to the God, our Lord, The ancient event we'll proclaim, - The way it was told on the Solovkies By honorable monk Pitirim. They robbed and took so much wealth Living in the very dense forest. And Kudeyar himself once stole From near Kiev a beautiful girl. (Chorus)... In the afternoon with his lover (mistress), he amused himself, Made raids at night. Suddenly at the fierce robber The Lord awakened the conscience. (Chorus)... He abandoned his "comrades", He stopped robbing. Kudeyar himself went to the monastery (in Solovki), To serve the Lord and people.
