This occupational safety film from the 1970s by the U.S. Mining Enforcement and Safety Administration (MESA) demonstrates workplace precautions at the face of a coal mine to counter roof fall accidents. Various methods, including the use of automated roof bolting machinery, are demonstrated and explained. In short, the films shows miners and machinery in action at the face of an active coal mine.

Thank god there were brave men that valued honest hard work back then. Men willing to take the very well known risks to take care of their families. I have utmost respect for those guys back then. I hear about this younger generation crying because they have to work long hours in conditions they call unfair. I absolutely find their whining disheartening and almost offensive knowing what these guys did. They built America and created the economy that spoils this young generation of labor. Shit, they don’t even know what real “labor” is. So soft and they wonder why they are called snowflakes. Hell, can’t even tell which ones are the men and which are the women ….and they want it that way! Wouldn’t last 10 minutes in a mine. Sorry, went way off track, my bad. Point is respect to that generation of men who did this job to make my life better and filled with great options. Thank you!

Funny. Before getting laid off, I was an underground miner. We would pump over a million gallons of water a day out of the mine and into the river. After we treated the water, it was cleaner than the river we pumped it into.
