It's not because he doesn't know how to use a microphone it's that when you're singing that is a proper mic hold. So he is technically using it correctly but his volume level is a little too high and the pickup or exposure is a is a little strong. I only know that because I'm a musician and have used microphones quite a bit.

there is a v old interview where they actually said the story...if i ever find it imma put the link here...they started by saying a made up story then the interviewer was v confused and it got a lil awkward so they said the real one...but the story was v boring sooo i get why they do it lol

I know how they actually met. So Josh used to work at a guitar shop that one of Tyler’s friends also worked at. (They had that friend in common). Tyler often visited the store to see his friend, and Josh was usually there at the counter (I think). Eventually from the few conversations they had, the started to become friends. I’m guessing since they had music in common, and since Tyler’s friend was in the original TØP, when he dropped out, Tyler asked Josh if he wanted to join the band after getting to know each other better. And that is how they met. (This could potentially be incorrect, but google said that even though they like making up stories, they finally opened up for google to have the actual story. Also, google made a guess. It seemed like the most reliable source for that story). If you would like to look this up yourself, this is what I searched : How did Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun Meet? It was the first option.
