I think it's because the healing message in the lyrics comes first, and the style of music second. Doubt anyone will read this but this song helped saved my life and I feel like I need to say thank you to tyler and josh. I was going to kill myself last April, I had everything planned out and I felt really at peace with it. I was failing all my university classes and had stopped trying with everything. I had all my notes written, everything planned, it was all perfect. But I had always loved TOP and I was glad I was going to be around to hear their new songs come out, including this one, before I left. So of course "can't change what you've done, start fresh next semester" hit me like a freight truck. I was actually really angry at the song, just because I didn't want anything to get in my way, and I was upset because I didn't WANT reasons to stay, and yet here was this song that felt like it was speaking directly to me. I ended up telling my dad my plans the night before. Finally got diagnoses and lots of medications. But I'm doing okay, which is bizarre to say out loud. I never thought I would be okay, but I am. "Can't change what you've done, start fresh next semester." And next semester I'll be going back to university to retake my classes... stay strong everyone. Its hard to believe it'll get better, but it really does. You're never too far gone. It's worth trying, even as a last resort.

The song is remembering his life as a young, angry and depressed teenager. They took inspiration of rock genres from that time period and blended them all in one song. Incredible. Every time they do the chorus, they use a completely different instrumental technique and style. They are so versatile. It’s amazing. This is ART.

I think I’m realizing that this whole lore isn’t just based on Tyler’s fight with mental health, but also him dealing with his “attempt.” I feel like the Heavydirtysoul music video was him first taking that moment head on, hence the car burning up and then he escapes into trench after battling it and he is feeling better. I feel like this music video shows that the cycle never breaks and he has to face it again, but since he is in a better mental state he’s pretty much reliving it through this video. It was obviously a really traumatic experience and it makes this song so sad but so beautiful at the same time.
@kadewhitman45439 ай бұрын
With Josh being in the road I feel like that’s because he doesn’t battle with depression like Tyler does, as he’s able to face things head on and they swerve out of the way for him. Idk might be reaching but just a thought.
@kadewhitman45439 ай бұрын
I got more lol. I think him performing and then it going to him reliving that moment is him using playing shows to help him battle depression. That’s why when he gets out of the road, it cuts back to him playing music

I absolutely love the symbolism in this music video. The clip of him in the road replaying over and over again represents Tyler replaying traumatic moments again and again in your head, and the fact that the clip changes and he runs in a different direction could be mis-remembering those moments. At the end when he's surrounded by people in the road, it's the feeling of coming back to school after being away due to mental health, and your classmates hearing about it and judging you, but in reality all of those people were at his concert, representing support for him. This also explains why he says "start fresh next semester", because the next semester can feel like a new beginning and an opportunity to start over and do better.
