He wrote this when he was like 17 years old…just a kid. Love this guy.

Although I'm a super hard-core fan, I'm not impressed that he wrote this song when he was 17. The lyrics are fairly simple, the song doesn't say much. It repeats itself a lot butttt I do love it and always look forward to it at the shows🥰

@@keepyourbliss it’s not about the lyrics…they’re simplistic for Tyler. But when you think about the feeling he evokes behind a crowd of thousands with it, the music he put it to, the change up in it, the showmanship he would eventually design for it to be played live…and the ideas and vision he was developing for himself already at a young age. He was far beyond what 95% of 17 year olds were doing in my opinion. You have to start somewhere and no one trained him …so I am impressed that he wrote it at 17. Not to mention how vulnerable that was for a young guy.

I’m 48yrs old and no one beat out my #1 concert which was Michael Jackson when I was 8yrs old after Thriller was released UNTIL I saw TØP SUMMER 2022! I took my son to hear his favorite band and they blew me away and now have become my favorite band!

there are multiple fox theater's across the nation, but this performance was in Oakland they always end their shows with this song - it's written very ambiguous so it hits differently for everyone - i think for Tyler it's probably religious, but it can apply to anyone searching for something/answers all of their songs mean something to tyler, but he doesn't give away a lot of the meanings - sometimes he will if people ask, but he would never tell someone they're wrong if they interpreted the song differently than what he meant it i'd say early on to do: Car Radio (video) Ode to Sleep (video) Holding On To You (either live from Fox Theater or the video) - it's a great live performance

I'm not religious in the slightest, but I do know Tyler writes lyrics to be interpreted from both aspects, and as a fan I appreciate that. This was the first song I heard from them, the record version. And in my head I saw this ghost trying to make contact, like me that cannot because anxiety. And that made me cry and love the song. Hugs from Sweden.

Nice one Zack. Yeah, you're spot on with how Tyler writes. I think especially with some of the songs that are more 'faith based' he doesn't want to exclude people or make things too overt so writes very cleverly. He gets his meaning across but also leaves things open so others can interpret the music in whatever way they can relate to. I'm not a church goer either but I always think Josh looking up with his eyes closed and hand up in worship is a beautiful moment in this video. It's a bittersweet moment when they start playing Trees as it's always the last song they play, so you know you're about to have this great uplifting time with Tyler and Josh and the other fans but also that it means the show is over. 100% recommend going to see them live when they next tour!

Agreed! Tyler has also said more recently that sometimes the meanings of the songs even change for him, depending on what he is struggling with at the time. It’s an added benefit of writing music that was intended to be more universal and open to interpretation. Plus Tyler’s writing usually has multiple layers.

If you do Holding on to You from Fox Theater I suggest watching the original video too. BUT the cool thing about them is their buddy Mark (Real Bear Media) creates a lot of behind the scenes vids about how they made each of their official vids. It’s awesome and shows you more about their process. Very genuine guys.

I only got into Twenty Øne Pilots last year when my sister told me we were going to see them at Madison Square Garden, and I had only heard some of their radio stuff while shopping. I started to really listen and was surprised how deep their messages were as their beats were so accessible. Ashamed to say that I had written them off beyond pleasant sounding music. "Car Radio" is my favorite. In most of their music, there's an opportunity for interpretation, b7t you're right that there definitely Christian and mental health themes. P.S. The concert was amazing. First time I bought a concert T in a few decades... 😊

i also went on a quest to figure out my own spirituality when i got sober. something about being confronted with the real, unfiltered version of yourself 24/7 just makes you feel like you have to know who you are for anything else to make sense. their album "vessel" got me through some tough times and i've experienced this song live 6 times - it never gets old.

Yes, they are incredible live! I especially love watching Josh on the drums, he’s a beast! I would have done “Holding Onto You” (Live at the Fox Theater) first, but this is a song that they end pretty much every concert with. They don’t do the “encore” thing … just end with a celebration 🎉 You are correct, Tyler keeps a lot of his music open to interpretation. He wants it to connect in a way most meaningful to you. If you notice, he has one of his in-ears out so he can hear the audience. There’s a strong connection with their fans (Clique), they almost become the third member of the band. They end every concert with “We are twenty one pilots and so are you” ❤

Yes, their energy is infectious! Def an experience, a must-see. I've been to a lot of different concerts over the years, no one puts on a show like TOP!! Tyler has said in interviews that he writes songs with how it will sound live in a stadium and with the fans in mind. You'll find we all sing along to every song, because, as Tyler and Josh have dubbed us, we are the "third essential members of the band." That's why he sends us off with the phrase we love to hear "We're twenty one pilots and so are you!" Really glad you watched through the accolades on this one. Recommend Lane Boy, Car Radio, Holding On to You, and Ode to Sleep next. Looking fwd to your next reaction :) 💛 |-/

At the end when they are drumming you came heard the crowd yell in between sequences. The beauty of this song is you can yell whatever it means to you. For me it is a reminder that we have others we can rely on and that gives me faith

Fox theater is in Oakland, CA. Good morning Zack! I think he wrote this song when he was 17 or really young. The duo have a Christian background, and their earlier music definitely has some of those undertones. Tyler questioned his faith a lot and his relationship with God(in numerous songs). So I think the “main” meaning for this song is like a “talk” with God or some help trying to help find him again. This is the song they end all their concerts with, as u can tell the energy is second to none. The confetti is always themed to the colors of their tour. Lots of this concert is must-see, holding onto you, Goner, the judge etc. I’m hear for the journey with you bud.. keep us clique fans happy.. have a great day

Theres so many great songs that youre yet to discover with very deep meanings. I recommend you to do every single song from their self titled album, Vessel, Blurryface, Trench and Scaled and Icy. Some of them dont have a music video but those are the most amazing ones. I cant wait to see your reaction to the storyline thats going on since 2017.

A lot of Tyler's music does have religious or Christian undertone since they are Christian. But, Tyler has expressed that his music is to be interpreted in different ways as people see fit that they can relate to it. So there is no one answer you are correct You can interpret it in a manner that's meaningful to you I enjoy your breakdowns keep up the great work.
