Hi Yaw, congratulations for all you have been doing; you are the inspiration I have been looking for. I am a Delali, British originally from Togo and have started my youtube language channel for mina, a language spoken in Togo. I love what you are doing and I wonder if you would like to give me some advice on how to develop and improve on my language project. I am in UK, so will be more than glad to hear from you so we can exchange contact (whatsapp or email.). Thanks.

Hello dear brother! Congratulations for the opportunity you have been given me to know about the TWI language. Nevertheless, I'm still confused about the terms Ashanti and Twi. Please,what's does each term refer to?
@zeekchaiyde224 жыл бұрын
In regards to language I believe they are referring to the dialects of the Akan language. Twi and Ashanti are both the same language(Akan) they're just different dialects.
@nkanumberone3 жыл бұрын
Asante (Ashanti as the British pronounced it) is the largest Akan state or nation state i.e Asanteman (Asante kingdom). Our dialect is called Asante-Twi. There are other Akan states such as Akyem, Bono, Akuapem etc. hence Akuapem-Twi, Bono-Twi etc. Even Fante is actually Fante-Twi. But it's all the same language called Twi. Even within Asante Twi there are differences in pronunciation such as people in Sekyere area of Asante would say "toɛ aduane no" (bring down the cooked food from the fire), while people from Amansie area in Asante would rather say "soɛ aduane no" meaning the same thing.
@zeekchaiyde223 жыл бұрын
@S E P correct. Ashanti or Asante refers to the dialect as well as the ethnic group

I’m a bit confused. I thought “they” was )mo like “)mo se d3n?” “What did they say” 🤔
@learnakan4 жыл бұрын
Yes, we do say "ɔmo" as well, but that is informal, hardly (if at all) written in standard Twi literature. "Wɔn" is what we use in standard, more formal Twi (e.g. in the Bible, textbooks, etc.)
