They have to continuously please the local audience. The bar has been set so high by Lea Salonga & Regine V. You have to prove your worth. Otherwise, local will just go to karaoke bars or bars with live bands. That’s my take on it.

Here in the Philippines, when you’re a singer who is on the way to stardom or if you wanted to be famous, aside from competing on singing competitions, you have to show the people what you can do with your voice because there’s thousands of talented singers here. So, to proved to the Filipino audiences that you’re a cut above the rest or to sell your album, when being asked by the media to give an impromptu performances, you have to do it and impressed them. And also, many singers honed their talent through singing the 90’s power ballads from Mariah, Whitney, Celine, Bryan Adams, Michael Bolton and many more, that’s why Philippines is also “the land of belters”, and we still listened and sing on the karaoke those 90’s power ballads.

She don't need a mic coz her voice is loud enough to be heard..i think that's the point of this vid. I've seen lots of Budakhel's impromptu (which are all good) and they also don't use mic. ☺ A good singer can sing well with or without mic, thats for sure.
