Twin Point: Little Known Overlook of the Grand Canyon

Twin Point is a seldom-visited viewpoint overlooking the north rim of the Grand Canyon, Arizona. The drive to get there starts in St. George Utah and takes you through part of the Arizona Strip and the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument.

Been to the North Rim. We went through the main entrance where the Buffalo are and where the lodge is. Thanks for showing a different view from a different entrance. I really enjoyed it ☺️.

The family took a road trip last year and we made our first stop at the grand canyon at the skywalk, it was surreal and the picture we took looks too much like a backdrop but it is in fact the grand canyon! Now I want to go see it from this vantage point!

Thank you! Keep in mind that Kelly Point is difficult to get to with an SUV due to the overgrown vegetation. Either a side-by-side, motorcycle (dirt bike) or even a mountain bike would be a better option. Check conditions with BLM office in St. George.

Used to run out there when checking Oak Grove house. The biggest thing out there is 2 spares. And BLM map. Roads are marked fairly well.

Google Earth folks. Always. DON'T go without map. And you can go in from Saint George and out over Lime Kiln Pass or Whitney Pass. Pakoon. If Whitney Pass you can hit artesian wells. Lime Kiln route out is more scenic. Drops into Mesquite. Other out through cedar pocket and Bunkerville/Gold Butte.

A day trip out of St George is best. The distances are great in the Arizona Strip, easy to over estimate. Going over Lime Kiln to Mesquite or a visit to Gold Butte will easily add 4-8 hours onto an already day-long trip. However, if you're camping, no problem, go wherever you want with the days you have.

@@BackRoadsWest1 it is a good way to go. I did not know groups went. When I come out again will holler. Worked there. Which is why I have been to most places and understand the layout and timelines. The worst trip was up to BlackRock from Mesquite. Those rocks sticking out of the dirt lol.

I visited the North Rim in June 2018 and fell in love with Arizona and southern Utah! I wish I had known about places like this while there. What a beautiful place that any nature lover should visit at least once. I hope to return very soon and attempt this little jaunt. Do they offer BLM field trips often? I would definitely want the safety in numbers. That terrain is no joke! Helpful video, thanks!

Be careful going to Twin Pt in winter - lots of muddy roads, especially if there has been lots of snow. We've run into serious mud in May even. Good luck.

The guy in the lead Jeep in that tour told us all about driving cattle down the road you and I were on, through St. George up Bluff Street, then all the way to the railhead to Modena. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the vehicle. Furthermore, the road conditions change every year. The best thing to do is try the road and use your best judgement. The types of tires you have is also important. They should be all terrain and not normal tires. Normal tires run the risk of rock punctures and you'll be over 70 miles from any services. I've known someone that had 5 flats in one day out there!

One-way: 3-4 hours. We live in St. George, so we left at 9am and didn't get back until 5pm. It also depends on road conditions; like right now after the rain, I wouldn't even attempt it because of the "killer mud".

It's an all day affair. Go out spend the night come back. Same with Toroweap. Oak Grove is where 1019 goes. It has Mount Dellenbaugh and Mokeac Well. Trees. Trumbull is high area 22 miles from Toroweap. Great wandering area. 4600 miles of roads 400 miles maintained.

I have Toyota Sienna 2wd with AT tires..will a van make it through at twin point?

No. You would certainly dent and ruin the undercarriage and possibly get stuck. Be safe and take a 4WD.

This is a very remote area. Road conditions change every month. You definitely need high-clearance, but 2WD might be ok. You'll have to make the call when you see the road conditions.

You don't need a lifted vehicle. The roads are generally in good shape. Just muddy in winter and late spring. With a wider vehicle (we have a gen 2 4Runner which is narrow), expect to get what we affectionally call "Arizona pinstriping", which are the shrubs on the 2-3 miles of the road. Good luck!

No. Need high clearance and should have 4WD. Either way, DO NOT attempt this road until after May 1 or after a recent rainstorm - the mud this road produces after rains makes it impassable for any vehicle!

Have you visited these places? They are both remote and would require engineering feats to cross canyons and ridges. It would be very expensive. The video you commented on is in the GC Parashant and 90 miles from pavement - actually a freeway in south St. George.
