I'm not too sure about this front. Difficult one. grts. Kennet

I have a few reservations myself. Really surprised that they don't seem to have fused after 5 years. I'm going to let it grow out for this year and maybe redesign/refine some more next year. Maybe a new front will present itself then. Stay safe Kennet.

Thanks Smack. Expected more rooting but you have to take what you are given I guess. Stay safe

God, the first branch question is a tricky one...I think it eventually goes away. I do think the pot is too big as well, but here’s another can of worms: there’s a scheme where the second branch in the left tree (the one growing inward) is the leader of that tree. It obviously would be a smaller scale tree so setting up a mother/daughter style pair. I know, I know...that’s a whole lot of crap you didn’t ask for but I couldn’t help it! Cheers Sid.

Great thoughts though . Something t mull over as the sesson progresses. I thought I would be much further ahead in terms of fusion and styling by now but hey ho. Still not sure about the pot. For now it makes a traing pot and maybe it will grow into it!? Stay safe

Keep that lower branch for this year at least. If the two trees dont end up fusing, you could separate them and maybe use that branch then. Also you are right, it would make a nice jin.

Thanks Andrew. I think I will keep it for this year and make the decision next Spring. Unless I get tired of looking at it. 😂. Stay safe

I'd keep the lower branch. It appears, to my eye at least, to counterbalance the other tree growing at an angle in the opposite direction.
@SidsTrees3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Guy. I see what your saying, though maybe it is a little too low? Going to keep it for this year at least. We'll see how it goes after that. Thanks for the comment though. Stay safe

I would wire it down in the direction you was bending it. See what it looks like in full leaf. Could you do a video showing how you make a soil mix for the trees please. Keep safe and well no 2 jab sorted early May for me hubby already done.
@SidsTrees3 жыл бұрын
I could do a video on my mix but it would be pretty uninspiring tbh. I just throw the stuff in a bucket and stirr it with a handfork. Glad to hear you are getting the jab soon. Wife and I have just had our 2nd. Stay safe

I think keep the bottom branch, at least until next year. Won't it help the trunk get thicker so helping the fusion? Only guessing... I'm only a novice, that's for sure. I also think it's ok in that pot. It will look even better when the leaves are out and it grows a bit more.
@SidsTrees3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Granny. Yeah im going to leave it on for this year at least. As you say it should help thicken the trunk more. 🤞 It looks better in the pot already so far. Maybe I'll change it next repot, maybe not. Take care . Stay safe

Thanks Louise. I agonized over that top branch but yes, in the end it had to go. Stay safe

I’m surprised that it hasn’t developed roots above that wire in five years. So goes our bonsai experiments. Thanks
@SidsTrees3 жыл бұрын
I was surprised too Matt. All the books suggest tourniquet layering as an easy and simple way to get a good root system. Course they say air layers are easy too and I've had little luck with them either. Stay safe
@mattbrennan6473 жыл бұрын
I suspect the issue is that the trees would have to fuse before the tourniquet is effective in forming roots above the wire. I’ve had luck with that method on single trees where I can cut off all of the functions of the original roots. With trying to fuse the trunks the trees still have access to supplies from the original root system. Good luck

I think you're probably right. 🙂

I'm in a few minds with the whole tree really. The lower branch could go, with the branch above wired down and brought around to the front a bit. But the trunks don't look right to me, they seem to have some strange tapers going on.
@SidsTrees3 жыл бұрын
I guess I've lived with it for so long that I've gotten used to it's little strangenesses. It has a long way to go and will evolve along the way. Thanks Mikey. Stay safe

where do you buy the controlled release feed from plz sid?
@SidsTrees3 жыл бұрын
Some I bought from Amazon. I also bought some from a place called the Range which is one of those places that seems to sell a little of everything. They don't stock it in my local garden centre. Stay safe Jay.

No need to be sorry Andrew. It is what it is. I'm going to leave it for this year and maybe if I still feel the same it will go into something different. Stay safe
