I'm Australian, in my early 60's and I would love to have done what you have Succeded in this machine. I had heard that the original engine were not real powerful and were Un-reliable. So putting a modern V6 engine in it is perfect, It looks like it was meant for it, beautifully done.

It’s done perfectly, only wish u guys can invest into a 1/4 mile timer and a 0-60 digital metro, It’s great it is almost 500hp rwd but the numbers is a world of difference on this build, I am guessing it’s a hi 12 second car, to low 13 sec machine, or at least 88mph car at that , Great car guys , mr delorian would of been proud to see this machine ,

We used a draggy on the car at one point. I forgot the 0-60 time (somewhere in the high 3s I believe) but the 1/4 mile time was 11.4 at 124mph

Yeah, the cam timing being similar to and based around Ferrari engines helps with that I think.

Nice build. Engine sound match the car. I would remove the black bumper and design a stainless steel small wing to help with aero and looks. Rims, suspension, and modern lighting is next. And mini Gatlin roof mount is last.

That's some awesome yet wild Shit! Probably the most road worthy time machine ever made! LOVE it and everything you chose to use under it. Took a bit of engineering which I love about it more! It's not your drop an LS in the thing with a Turbo or supercharger regular BS in every build ya see anymore. Yes I give it to GM for the LS at least, was a former Chevy Guy, now I'm smarter. Takes being burned by what you love too many times, Now I have no real Love for them anymore as GM in General. BUT you guys went outside the Box on every level which is pretty awesome! From using what fits best to the what can we do to keep it as original looking and working as possible and didn't just take the easy way out and gut shit! VERY NICELY DONE WORK! You all should be very proud of this car! It was never nearly as this nice brand new and that's engineering over brawn, I love it!

Surprisingly well. There is a small SPAL fan on the bottom of both pulling air from underneath the car. Temps are always great while driving.

Do the inter coolers actually do anything? I don’t see any air ducting for them and the cone filters just under will be sucking in hot air as well.

Yes. There is a small Spal fan under each pulling air up. It works great for this cars purpose as a street car. If this car was intended to race we'd need a different method for sure, but this setup works great on the street.

A couple of reasons. #1 We had experience with the engine during previous projects. #2 It just seemed much more fun haha. Plus a bunch of technical reasons.

New Inconel trailing arm bolt, all new stiffer suspension bushings, new coil overs. some other stuff. and it's really not as weak as people say. just needs to be well kept and checked for rust.

Was the reason you disabled variable cam timing just to do with making it sound a particular way? You didn't mind about reducing the torque spread?

Sound and driving characteristics was the biggest reason we did it, but we also wanted to simplify the engine and eliminate moving parts that could be points of failure.

Direct injection becomes fuel intake port. I think they had to reduce compression ratio accordingly.

Maybe, it likely wouldn't be worth the effort and cost haha. Technology has advanced a lot. Especially in the ECU and fuel delivery department. That's the biggest reason modern cars can be so powerful.

@@omd_sd : I was just thinking that using such old parts would show how good the DeLorean could have been straight out of the factory. It's such a shame that the stock DeLorean only had the looks of a sports car without the performance and handling. According to Wikipedia, in 1981, two DeLoreans were modified with twin turbos and twin intercoolers by Legend Industries. This engine made the DeLorean quicker than the Ferrari 308 and Porsche 928. DMC had plans to order 5,000 such engines for the DeLorean and offer it as an option, but sadly the company went bankrupt first.

The video on timing will show it better, but basically it's where you set your ignition and exhaust timing timing and how much overlap you have. We set it very similar to how Ferrari sets up their v8s.

Biggest changes are the port injection and the exhaust being close at exit like that. Both give it that smoother high pitch sound.

We are using the stock rear wheels in the front. We needed the extra space for the new brakes as well as enjoying the dished look. We did have to make some modifications to make them fit and the changed offset and high grip tires definitely make it wander just a tad.

Just need to upgrade all the stock lights, swap out to LEDs and get rid of the old style bulbs both interior and exterior. It'll make them all so much brighter than the old bulbs to stand out more and give better visibility and for dirt cheap. One thing I always hated about those square headlights was hot quickly they got dim and yellowed out, just don't go full warm blue for the headlights... Those things hurt to look at head on.

Hahaha, don't get me wrong we love Toyota engines as much as anyone. But it's pretty clear Kia and Hyundai have been trying very hard to improve their engines, hiring both Japanese and German engineers to help design the their engines and it shows in this engine for sure.
