The difference is the actual bonnet was made to look like how the eye brows look nowadays because eye brows weren't really a thing so people just used to cut the bonnet,shape it,respray it & make it bad boy style.

Had them welded on during a respray and fitting of a bodykit on my corolla gti, brand new bonnet and boot from toyota. Dude badboyed both front and back lights and it started rusting there within weeks lol

The body kit on the Astra looks heavily influenced by touring cars,DTM & even time attack race cars.But I can see how the car would draw a crowd,it looks insane. Definitely has a bit of Need for speed Underground vibe.

Yeah, and that was way before the dtm caught on and started using kits like that. I remember when this car made the cover of MaxPower. The touring cars then were nothing like they are now. Mondeo, laguna, vectra etc. The Renault 5 looks smashing from every angle, apart from behind. That back window is supposed to be one piece.

These two cars were a big part of my teens. Even had a poster of that same max power car on my bedroom wall and many others all with the maxpower girls too obvisouly. Also had the calibre coachworks poster also and remember when it set on fire. I remember the magazine issue all about it. Great days

People from this era now have kids who get 300bhp hot hatches on finance, lol. They'll never know the jealousy you felt when someone had a 1600 Astra and you had a 1.2 Merit. They'll never know how good those days were for us, feeling so good about your new Pipercross induction kit on your Nova or that new Pioneer head unit you got from Halfords on offer with a set of Ripspeed 6x9's you butchered the parcel shelf to fit so you could blast out Pure Garage Volume 4368 or if you're with a girl, Craig David. And the legendary MAX power sunstrip. Cruising around in your Reebok classics and a Lacoste polo shirt with the colar popped. Picking up a date and having to explain why your car is so bouncy and what the weird noise is (wheels rubbing the arches) So sad, we never know we're living a special moment or period until it's all just a memory. I'm 41 in Feb. I've owned some fast cars, one of which was a fully built 350Z twin turbo with a custom bottom end from the US via a company called Torqen and a clutch that cost me £1500 and lots of other goodies but it only feels like last week I was living this as a 20 year old and to be honest, they were better days than I had even with my 350Z and it was my absolute DREAM to have a turbocharged Japanese car. I'd still have it if RE Perfomance in Bury had used the gasket set I supplied them with the bottom end to fit. Kept overheating despite having a uprated fan, big intercooler, oil cooler, the lot. They uprated the thermostat, fit all the uprated cooling hardware and swore blind they'd used the gaskets and that it wasn't a gasket issue. i sold it for a fraction of what I paid because I couldn't resolve the overheating. The guy who bought it took it apart and whatsapped me "The head gasket is old and what's more is, it failed" I knew they didn't fit the kit when I noticed the owner of the garage stubbornly trying to fit a component into some sort of socket. he struggled for ages and wouldn't be told that he's doing it wrong. His son who also worked at the garage pushed him aside and fit it immediately. Anyway, a bit of a rant there. You can find my build journal on the 350Z uk forum. Ahh the old max power days, the car scene was best around 2001 to 2008. Its just not the same any more. The days of fannied up novas and corsas and sexos with led window scooshers are well gone. Now it's a fiesta with a pop and bang map.

I have that max power magazine with that silver n blue Vectra/Astra that caught fire somewhere. I had a black MK 3 Fiesta XR2i 1.6 8 valve back in the early 2000's, modded of course, JBL 6x9's in a stealth shelf, 2 10" bass bins, front speakers, 15" BSA chrome propeller style rims, mongoose exhaust, K n N induction kit,black diamond discs n pads, Essex racing bucket seats, RS1800 interior & rear seats, lexus rear lights, Fiesta turbo bonnet with a rover tomcat bump in the bonnet, fuck knows but it looked alright & a few more engine mods lol Miss that car 😁 Good Times 👍🏻

Here in Australia we call these cars "sexspec" Back then we had a show called the Autosalon that was pretty much filled with modified cars such as these, the only real major difference was our cars were mainly japenese imports. I miss the 2000s

I remember the Max Power Astra getting built when I was a kid buying these mags. That car was horrible, of course everyone loved it because it was Max Power. I remember being in a local petrol station buying Max Power. A guy walked past me and said don’t buy that sh@# I’ve got a real car mag for you. Went out to the car, opened the boot give us both a copy of Fast Car and some merch. From that day on we was both fast car fans.

I remember the blue and silver Astra V6, the body kit was based on the DTM cars, same with the wing on the back, and same again with the R5, DTM style mirrors which were more aerodynamic and the wing with the struts going down the tailgate were based on the period BTCC Civic’s

Love seeing the old cars mate. Your videos are a good blast from the past. Can I offer a little bit of constructive criticism, I'd upgrade to a half decent mic. The pfft every so often when describing is really off putting. That may just be me as I usually listen with good headphones.
