Always wanted to reanimate that dance of hers ever since I saw it way back haha. A shame the Japanese studio wasn't given the time or the budget to make it any better, which they very well could have(the first one was ok). No amount of auto-interpolation is going to make the dance work, the keys and in-betweens are all over the place (some are held for 20ish frames lol). So I decided to take a crack at it. Opentoonz is pretty kicka$$, I'd say.

I remember watching this on VHS eons ago with my fellow taks/best friends (now passed away)...we would play it over and again and tear up laughing at how wonky these parts were. So even though a lot of people say my version is 'improved' over the original, I wouldn't want any other version of TNRM than tthe way I found it so many years ago. We laughed at/with her clumsy charm and celebrated just having any anime we could find at specialty stores or comic book shops that doubled as pirate bays for bootleg anime. The notion of this under-budgetted series of colored storyboards (lol)existing is one of my true happy thoughts.

Nora's dancing may be really awkward, but she's having too much fun with it to care. That's the vibe your re-animation gives me, and I love that. It fits with the way Nora herself generally acts.

Thanks! I think I put a lot into it because I had some pent-up frustration on behalf of the animators who worked on it who probably didn't have the budget and time given to them. I remember actually liking the show back when and thought it was charming in a clumsy sort of way. But yeah..had to do it 😄

one of the best things about the overlap is that Max's expressions make it look like he's jealous of how much extra frames and detailing she gets, in comparison to his shabby slideshow dancing. 0:22

What this really shows is how amazingly awkward that dance is lol. That one move where she has her leg bent, arms straight out, torso twisted one way and head twisted another? What even is that lol. You made this 99 percent coherant but that one frame.... that one frame just can't be salvaged.
@FullchainAnimation

Hahaha i was afraid to say it...whoever planned out the key poses can't dance 😄 It's true, you can smoothen her moves but there's no saving her awkwardness (like a little kid messin). Didn't want to change the mains but..dam...😆

I was actually gonna ask you if you just _INFERRED_ what she was *trying to do* based on what little frames you had to work with as reference, or if you were just replaying the frames sped up over and over and then "brushing" the movements together with in-betweens. there's so few actual movement and posing from the source material you kinda have to just "guess" and "fill in the blanks" as to how she actually moves; it's hard to tell if she actually lifts her legs for a little kick, or if she's just stepping to the side to do something with her waist and arms.

You put waaaay too much effort in this. Fantastic job, my condolences to any pain you suffered lol. But this truly shows that a lack of in-betweens is not the main issue here. These poses are super janky, and they definitely don't match up with the music. This proves to me that this is less of "ran out of money before we could finish" and more of "knew we couldn't finish in the first place so rushed this as much as possible". Poor thing needs to be reworked from the ground up, but you really breathed some needed life into it with what you had. So again, beautiful job! I wonder if I should start a reanimate project on this lol
@FullchainAnimation
@FullchainAnimation 3 жыл бұрын
True, and Japanese animation isn't really known for its dance scenes, it's just not their strength lol. The only way to truly 'fix' this is to ignore all the given poses completely like you said. I made sure to use the mains though, for more of an homage rather than a retcon. I agree, those poses don't even fit the music haha (I bet they didn't even have the tune when they made it). I'm glad it's making you think of a reanimate project, that's cool 😊
@TheBlueStarGal2
@TheBlueStarGal2 3 жыл бұрын
@@FullchainAnimation yeah, you really can't even imagine what the in-betweens where _supposed_ to look like. Like, none of these moves flow into one another in a natural way, so it really makes it seem like there was no plan to add them to begin with. And even if the poses where amazing and it flowed perfectly, half of the dance sequence is recycled reverse shots, so it would _still_ be super janky regardless lol. And you just made me notice that anime doesn't really have dance scenes, but I wouldn't say it's cause it's not their strong suit (cause it wouldn't be too off from a fight scene), I think it's just a cultural preference. But yeah, idk if I should be a part of a reanimated project, or bite the bullet and just remake the whole dance scene. Probably neither, but it would be cool to try lol

The whole anime looks like they just went to the tie downs from the keys and skipped the in-betweens. I would think that any animator would have to animate to those key frames no matter how wonky.
