Great to hear your stories again! Thank you for mentioning Sprinkle Spangles! I did try that in the 90s and the kid super sweet cereals just didn't work for me anymore so I saved it as a sweet topping for ice cream! Haha!

Good on General Mills to revisit their cereals of yesteryear. It's obviously a love letter to all those who grew up during that era. As an 80s child I'd be super excited if they re-released some old out-of-production classics.

I’m more excited about the Cereal Time reboot than the Twinkles reboot. I think if you’re old enough to remember this cereal, you’re probably not buying sugary cereals anymore.

How I remember sayings with Twinkles. Like, how they said eyes twinkling or twinkle toes. I never ate the Twinkles cereal, though.

OMG! I remember Twinkles. I had just turned five years old and loved elephants, so Mom bought a box of Twinkles for me. I remember that at first, the cereal wasn't sugar frosted, but that suited me just fine. I liked the oat taste. I vaguely remember Twinkles the elephant visiting "Merrie Olde England". In the story I saw Big Ben and double decker buses. I was also able to read the story because before I entered grade school, Mom home-schooled me a year earlier in the alphabet and beginning reading skills. I do remember the cartoon on King Leonardo and His Short Subjects. About the reboot - I know from experience that if someone brings back what you remember fondly, it just isn't the same.

The only reason I even know about this cereal is because I used to listen to this classic rock station as a kid, and one of their station identification bumpers utilized a clip of the "on the outside, a story about Twinkles the Magic Elephant" slogan. Took me years to find out what it was a reference to.

Yeah, I hated when they dropped the OAT flour from the MONSTER CEREALS (the original formula was just like LUCKY CHARMS, made with OAT flour) but now they use only CORN flour and it doesn't taste the same.

If my memory is correct TWINKLES cereal tasted like Kellogg's STARS (featuring HUCKLEBERRY HOUND on the box). Got to find out where they're selling the revived version.

Fun fact: in chile (my country) and some other south american and asian territories this cereal is named "Estrellitas" (Little stars in english) how ever this variant is produced by nestlé.

Welcome back! Twinkles is a cereal that I only knew about thanks to MrBreakfast documenting it. With Twinkles back, I think Big G can bring back many more old cereals, like Sugar Jets or Banana Wackies. Also, is it just me, or does the bird character look like José Carioca?

Without the oats the texture will be lost. This was one of the original shredders of the roof of your mouth cereals, only outdone later by most Quaker cereals like Quisp and Quake (Cap’n Crunch couldn’t hold a candle). I don’t think I ever had the elephant version though. My favorite was the first version of Rice Krinkles with its Chinese mascot, which I’m positive had a touch of soy sauce. I certainly remember the cereal cartoons, mostly Sugar Bear.

My Aunt Tye lived across the street from where my immediate family lived. I would go to her house before lunch... whenever my mother needed a break... and she would always have a cereal box treat waiting for me. A couple of trips got me a box of Twinkles. The story book on the back was what excited me. The cereal itself?.... nah, didn't like it at all. (I preferred Rice Krinkels or Sugar Pops!)
