It should be the opposite of mom guilt. Having your kids being able to let you go and come back is really important to their secure attachment. It makes them more confident and allow for them to rely on others who love them. It doesn’t change how hard it will feel, but it may make you have more peace knowing this is good for all of you.

Agree, especially for Flynn (since it's hard for the twins to understand). It helps to see that mom goes away (even for a few days), but she comes back.
@chloe_37872 жыл бұрын
Yes to this. I was not away from my mom at all for probably my first three years of life. At three, I cried at preschool everyday without fail. At eight, I would cry myself nearly sick when I was with a perfectly competent, likable babysitter. At ten, I struggled to spend one night with my grandparents. I’m better now at 19, but when I moved into a dorm even seven minutes away from home, the anxiety leading up to the transition was crippling. Every transition in life has been 100x harder, probably partially because of those early years. The reality is, Mom can’t be there for everything.
@bkyclk2 жыл бұрын
It’s an excellent time for Erik to bond with the kids by himself. He needs alone time with the babies so they become attached to him like they are with you. With our twins we shuffled them so much we didn’t even know which was which when we had them in the night cuddling them lol. The only one who knew their cry’s and noises was my sis their mom. The rest of us were like what how do you know who sneezed how is that possible?!

So if a caterpillar falls while in its chrysalis, it’s wings won’t form correctly and won’t be able to fly (at least, this was my experience). We raised butterflies this year and this happened to us again. There was some extra silk at the top of the fallen chrysalis, so we looped a sewing pin through that extra material (not piercing anything) and very carefully pinned it to the top of the container with the others. If you don’t have any extra material at the tops, I would recommend just googling because it happen a lot of the time. Hope this helps!!

Honestly, as hard as leaving them will be, it's not only important for you but also for them. I was raised so close to my mom that I missed out on sooo many opportunites growing up just because my mom wouldnt have been with me. Like gymnastics, I wouldnt do anything without my mom actually there. School overnighter trips were a definite no-go, and summer camps usually had me crying and sick with anxiety. This may just qualifily as they are a little older idk, but I definitely feel this will be good for all of you, as hard for all of you it may be.

BUTTERFLY HOBBYIST HERE! When a caterpillar pupates, it becomes a chrysalis by shedding its outer caterpillar skin which falls to the ground (By contrast, moth caterpillars spin cocoons of silk around them instead of shedding skin). The things you're seeing on the floor of the cups is probably shed caterpillar skins. You can leave them there or open the cup and clean them out if you'd like. Don't worry too much about disturbing the chrysalides. They're pretty solidly attached to the walls. However, if you find that there really are chrysalides that have fallen, you can use some tape (medical works best but scotch will work too) to create a "loop" at the little tail end of the chrysalis where the silk is. Fold the piece of tape in half lengthwise and pinch any silk that's left in between the two ends of tape. You can then pin the tape to the inside of the butterfly cage. If there's not enough silk left to attach to the tape, you can poke a needle and thread through the VERY tip of the chrysalis and tape the thread instead. There are plenty of KZbin tutorials out there on different methods to save a fallen chrysalis.

Second grade teacher here. I teach the butterfly life cycle. I have done this project every year for 13 years. Don't do what Gen says. Do not tape. Put it at the bottom of the butterfly net. Chrysalises naturally fall in the wild. It happens. But as long as the chrysalis isn't damaged, the butterfly should still emerge. Get the chrysalis out of the food so it won't soak up anymore moisture and put it at the bottom of the butterfly net. If you don't believe me, this is what InsectLore (the major company that does the whole butterfly kits thing) says to do: insectlore.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045717391-What-should-I-do-if-a-chrysalis-falls-#:~:text=Gently%20scoop%20your%20chrysalis%20out,mesh%20wall%20of%20the%20habitat.
@genthespacewitch2 жыл бұрын
@@WORDTOTHEDAY It's true that leaving the chrysalis on the floor of the butterfly cage probably won't cause them any harm. However, the purpose of a high-hanging chrysalis is to allow the butterfly a perch to rest and dry off after it emerges. I don't like leaving my chrysalides on the floor because it forces the butterfly to climb up the wall while they're still exhausted. It works and they won't die, but I prefer to hang them back up because I believe it's more humane to the animal. I've also seen a fresh chrysalis stick to objects that were too close while it was still wet and forming, causing the butterfly to become deformed and die. Check the chrysalides on the floor to make sure they haven't stuck to anything. Taping the chrysalis does no harm whatsoever as long as you don't tape the body of the chrysalis. Try to keep it on the stem/silk. The instructions provided by a mass-produced learning tool are probably formulated for a least-contact-possible approach, which isn't bad. I just prefer it my way for the reasons I stated above.

Throwing a Tortilla Talk Question out there: Since Flynn is such a brilliant speaker/storyteller have you encountered any instances when he says,"ok mom enough with the babies, come play with me". Any jealousy arisen from him since babies have come? Just was curious because I could listen to Flynn talk all day. 🧡

I am a mama of 3 amazing adult children, one of whom I will be with at your Toronto show! I can tell you that no matter what advice you get, you will feel all the feels and hold all the guilt. I always say that when they hand us our babies, they also hand us the biggest guilt cards ever. The fact that you feel like this just reinforces the fact that you are an amazing mama who loves her babies more than anything in the world. That also means that they know that. Your mom and dad will be in their element having your sweeties full time for a few days. Try to think of it as a selfless gift to allow your folks to love on them 24/7 for a few days and to allow your babies to develop an even stronger bond with their grands as well. I know you had a strong bond with your grandparents. It is truly a gift. See you tomorrow!

Secure attachments create those strong bonds with your kids and it may be scary leaving at first, but it’s really good for their development. You work so very hard, and your kids are going to look back on this time and be so stinkin amazed with their mama for living out her dreams and providing for her family. enjoy your tour. -with love from LancasterPA(Amish country 😁)

Awww, Collean you are too sweet. You know your babies will be having a good time with your family, like you said. It's a mom's heart you have. Do your show, have fun, it'll be over before you know it. Sending lots love and hugs and hope and peace 💕

Beyoncé was talking about mom guilt in her Homecoming documentary on Netflix. She said that for the first few rehearsals she was so out of it because she wanted to be with her kids and that was affecting her in rehearsals. I hope knowing that you aren't alone in your guilt and that other moms go through this as well helps you to manage your own guilt and the emotions that come with being separated from your children!

That giggle...love it. The laugh of a baby is music from God. Your babies will all be fine without you in fact it is probably good for all of you from time to time. (from a mother of 2, step mother of 3, grandmother to 13, great grandma to 17)

Tortilla Talk Question: I know you have said before that this whole house searching and buying process has been a struggle because of the market, but what is the main “accommodation” you are looking for in a house? In other words, if a house doesn’t have this specific thing, then you’re not even interested in looking at the rest of the house. (ex. kitchen island, huge living room)

Every time it hits you that you’re leaving them I hope it also hits you that you are actively parenting. You are in another country and still, are parenting. It’s the hardest job. But putting the kids first means equipping them with safe attachment skills and developing emotional regulation. The key ingredient is your absence. Say it with me as you cry! “IM BEING THE BEST MOM RIGHT NOW! EVEN IF IT DOESNT FEEL LIKE IT IM TOTALLY KILLING IT!!” Blow your nose and cry some more. It will be okay. One deep breath at a time Colleen!

The mom guilt is real, and it is not the same for any two mommas, just remember that you have an entire community of mommas who feel your pain and are supporting you through this. Feel the feels, it’s normal and it is OKAY!

My butterflies have just emerged from their chrysalis (chrysalises?) one had fallen to the floor so we put it on the floor of the net. It’s come out completely fine and we’re almost ready to release ours! The kids are *so* excited.. so am I! Edit to add hi I’m never this early 😆
@angeloddrev2 жыл бұрын
Yes, she just needs to leave them a couple of days to harden then place them at the bottom of the butterfly net. In a couple of weeks they'll climb out and walk up the sides of the net and be fine.
@krystalortiz51312 жыл бұрын
I do the same its actually common for them to fall so we put them on the bottom as well

It is so exciting, introducing different foods to babies the first time! They did so good! Once they eat “food” regularly throughout the day, you will probably notice they will sleep longer between wanting to eat. That was an added excitement for me with all my babies, MANY, MANY years ago. ☺️😉

Hi, Colleen. Looks like both of us had a bit of a tough day today, so I'm sending you a hug. My thoughts are with you that your travel is safe and the shows go extremely well. If it helps, perhaps you could facetime your family, and the twins can say hi to you (and to their "Mantee" Frankie-congrats to him and Hale!). You are amazing, and always help myself and so many others get through our greatest days and our not so greatest days. Glad that Maisy and Wesley enjoyed their sweet potato, that's one of my favorite vegetables! Sending you lots of love and good vibes, and I'm looking forward to your next video!

You're teaching your kids a valuable lesson! It's good to let them miss you once in a while, that will be a new feeling for them! It will help them not form attachment issues! It is always good to let kids feel a "scary" emotion then you can show there was no need to freak out, you're always coming back!
