That Hodek is one of my favorites and it is terrifying whenever it is descending near a tree or roof. But it never fails to inspire me to get back to my models when I get home.

I don't comment very often on videos, but I just had to say I absolutely love your Hodek. It is a stunning aircraft model both in flying ability and in shear beauty. If I had some talent I would try to build one myself, but I am only good enough to build kits or simple plans builds. LOL And thank you for allowing us to go on your wonderful flying adventures.

Thx, Glenn. It came from the 15" Lubomir Koutny plan that was in Flying Models mag. a few years back. I enlarged it to 35.5" and added structure where needed. When she hooks, she really gets up there. I love seeing her against the blue, then in and around the clouds.

Ha...yes. I'd become accustomed to just bringing them out of the box and flying on contest day, without first giving them a short trim flight to check the surfaces...so this was my way of making sure the Hodek was ready to go the following day. It worked!

Great video beautiful model and flights! When i was a kid i built a Comet B-26 and i thought it was going to beat itself to death on the first flight. I got into RC a bit later, but FF is so inspiring to do and watch I’ll be back to it before long. Especially since it is outside of the FAA id crap. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for another inspiring video, Tom! It's fascinating how far our hobby has come in recent years. You would have absolutely dominated any national free flight rubber scale event back in the '70s or '80s, when most competitors were flying simple high wing planes, and a one minute dead air flight was uncommon. Like many modelers, I don't have a decent flying field near me. Muncie would be a full day's drive from me, while Geneseo and Wawayanda would be two days' drive. As someone who has flown extensively at all three fields, how would you compare them for size, air quality, fun, etc? Any hints of what's on your building board this winter?

Thx, Slim! F/F mentors are very giving with their knowledge, so all of my friends have been sponges whenever we shared the fields with these gents. We owe so much to those from our modeling past. Muncie is 600 miles, while Geneseo is 275, and Wawayanda is around 95. All three are great places to fly, but I think that Muncie is my favorite, since the entire field is so accessible, with a perimeter road. Plus they have the AMA Museum. A must see. Wawa is my second fav, since it's so close, and also has plenty of space. I love camping there to catch the sunsets & sunrises. I've been going to Geneseo since 1990, and have only missed a couple of Non-Nats in the early 90s. While the surrounding crops seem to be closing in on the open space, it's still a great place to meet up with friends from all over the North America, and occasionally some from Europe. All should be on a modeler's bucket list.

Thx. All of these flights were on the beautiful field in Muncie, at the AMA headquarters. It's about 5/8 mile by 1.5 miles, then surrounded by crops. A great place to fly, plus u can visit the AMA Museum, which is loaded with model aviation history. A must see.

Brilliant as ever! I just LOVE this Hodek, I have followed its progress somewhat and its just such a cool airframe. I have sometimes wondered about geared rubber motors for twins with short nacelles, and years ago I tried a bit, just with skeletal and profile own design models, done purely to see what could be done with little plastic cog wheels and short fat motors. Do you or anyone have any thoughts on this? Some stunning flying here. Beautiful. 🌟🌟👍

Hi, I'm an old stick and tissue freeflight guy, but I'm also a collector and flyer of the old North Pacific planes; Astro Gnat, Skeeter, Sleek Streek, Star Flyer. Back in the 60's there was also a series of vacuformed planes were were great flyers printed in superhero patterns; Batman, Spiderman, Captain America, and Wonderwomen. So far I haven't found any information on them and zero pictures on any of my searches. If you or any of your watchers have any information I would appreciate it greatly. I may even offer up a Sleek Streek in it's original packaging if anyone can lead me to a purchase of one of them in good condition. Thank you.

If they have, I've never seen it. Much heavier than tissue, so most wouldn't go that route.
