Trailing 2-0 in the second inning of game 7, the Twins slowly but surely fought their way back to win their first World Series title since coming to Minnesota.

Since moving to Minnesota in 1961 from DC, the Twins have played in three World Series. Each went seven games and although they won two of those series, they were 0-9 on the road. That’s because they went 11-1 at home, with the only loss being G7 in ‘65 when Koufax shut them out 2-0 on two days rest. This ‘87 Twins club was colorful but benefitted from Cardinals’ injuries to Jack Clark and Terry Pendleton, who only started two games due to a rib cage injury. What the Twins excelled at was keeping Vince Coleman and Ozzie Smith off the bases, particularly in Games 6 & 7.

I was also at this game when I was 10. I disagree on the noise though. I was at the game 6 in 91 and that was the loudest noise I have ever experienced. Still have all my ticket stubs…1 & 7 in 87, 1 & 6 in 91 (and game 2 of the ACLS😏).

I miss baseball crowds getting this loud. Doesn't even come close these days. I remember growing up watching baseball in the early 90s. Was a big Giants fan but they rarely played on TV here. Saw a ton of Braves games and was always amazed how much the fans got into the game. Especially in the 91 WS, that was the loudest tomahawk chop I'd ever heard

I will never forget this series. I remember this like it was yesterday. The Vikings could learn a little about what it takes to win a championship, from the Twins. The Vikings are always a day late and a dollar short. Always leaving something in the locker room. This group of players, left it all out on the field. They were not going to be denied. They showed up when it really counted the most.

@@knightrdrx You would be singing a different tune if your team lost a World Series because of one huge missed call. Your opinion would change REAL quick. Getting the call right is more imporant than anything. Challenges are good for the sport and no, they dont hit the phones “every play”. Thats football.

This Twins team won their division with only 85 wins. This was back when the division was 7 teams and there was no wild cards. 89-91 wins was almost always the lowest bar to be in the playoffs back then.

The thing that was really funky about the 1987 Twins was how terrible they were on the road but how awesome they were at home. They went 56-25 at home in the regular season, and then 6-0 in the postseason. Regular and post-season combined, they had twice as many wins at home than on the road. All in all, they probably were only something like the 5th best team in the AL that year, but that's what occasionally happens when you give division winners automatic playoff berths.

Cards screwed again by a bad call at first base in the world series. First one in Game 6 of the '82 series, and now in Game 7 of the '87 series. If the correct call is made, the Cards still have the lead, 2-1 going into the 6th. Granted, the Twins were screwed out of a run at home by a bad call, so I guess it evens out.

@@robertosso5210The main reasons the 1987 Mets minimum did not return to the post season. 1)Injuries 2)Mets Closer Orosco unlike in 1986 having a good season in that championship year was not good blowing a couple of games late in regular season. 3)Cocaine..Cocaine and some booze. Kind of a minor miracle despite those severe issues the ‘87 Mets still won 92 regular season games.
