I saw Styx twice, late 1970s. The audience was very much mixed. They definitely appealed to everyone. Their shows rocked.

Nice rection guys! These uys still rock today with most in their or nearing their 70's! This particular concert was for one of their "concept" albums - the basic premise being that they are in a dystopian future where Rock & Roll is illegal. The song "Mr. Roboto" is from this album / show. The drummer (who passed in 1996) and the bass player are twins (fraternal) and were neighbors with the keyboard player growing up. The bass player and other two guitarists are still in the band and the other current members have been in the band for the past 20 yrs.

The lead singer Tommy Shaw went on to form Damn Yankees with Ted Nugent, Jack Blades (Night Ranger) and Michael Cartellone. They do a great version of this song live. Definitely a band worth reacting to - check out Come Again or High Enough

This is from a themed album about censorship in a future where Rock is outlawed, and so during "Renegade" the music police stormed the stage and hauled them away. This was inspired when they were accused of backwards satanic messages within "Snowblind", and calls to boycott their albums and other "unacceptable" artists' albums. Al Gore's wife championed legislation to ban albums, but it got amended to just warning labels. A lot of the theatrics were not well received at festivals with other bands with a lot of drunks just looking for a rock concert, and the band broke up soon after this tour. Check out some other live performances when they reunited for the Return To Paradise tour in 1996 or with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra. Styx is still touring with new albums, and they still put on a great show (even without Dennis DeYoung in the current lineup). My suggestions for more are: "Prelude 12/Suite: Madame Blue", "Fooling Yourself", "Come Sail Away" (NOT OFFICIAL MTV VIDEO, but either the album version or live from 1996 Return to Paradise tour), "Blue Collar Man", "Lady", "Crystal Ball", "Castle Walls", "Man In The Wilderness", "Queen Of Spades", "Snowblind", "A Day", "Born For Adventure".

I saw them in concert at least six times including their Return to Paradise tour where I actually got to meet them backstage. Also saw the singer of this song, Tommy Shaw, in concert as a solo act several times. They definitely were not a “Boy Band” for the girls. There was no shame in being a Styx fan. They happen to be one of Adam Sandlers favorite bands. Most impressive is how great they sounded live. They killed it. Every. Single. Time.

Saw them live in ATL, in July 1997. Chastain Park is an open-air amphitheater. It was a hot summer night with a full Moon and delicious aromas wafting around. The tickets were a birthday gift for my 39th, (the best birthday gift I ever got). So, you can tell I've been a fan for a long, long time. The band had 2 directions, one was Dennis DeYoung's, more progressive rock and some ballads. Tommy Shaw's direction was harder rock. There was a lot of tension and they split in 2000. What a shame. They were my 2nd favorite band of all time.

The song is actually from 1978.. They were kinda a prog-rock/hard rock band.. They did have alot of ballads and a few pop tunes that were big radio hits. Tommy Shaw, who sings lead in this, went on to form hair metal band Damn Yankees in the late 80s.

Great reaction! I would say if you want to react to their best live performances, I would definitely check the ones from Return to Paradise. Their later performances were best. This is a band that got better with age. I had tickets to see them before covid19 hit, but the concert was canceled. The ladies loved STYX, but they had a lot of support from guys as well. This is a great all around band that has been snubbed by the Rock Hall of Fame.

One of your best reactions yet! Thanks guys! Styx is an amazing band, and while I've heard they were amazing live in their heyday, I never saw them. I only listened to their albums. And I prefer their studio tracks. Tommy Shaw, the lead singer here, was blessed with youthful good looks (though he was on the short side height wise). He still has that going for him. Here he is with a Cleveland-based youth orchestra and chorus doing one of Styx's other great works, and it's really amazing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqG8eZqYn7R8p5I The band had internal conflicts like many great bands though, as another commenter noted. Shaw and other members of the band wanted to keep a rock sound, but Dennis DeYoung, the keyboardist, wanted to take it in a pop direction. Shaw ended up leaving the band and eventually co-founding Damn Yankees, which included rock veterans Ted Nugent and Jack Blades. Have a good and solemn Easter guys!

There's two STYX... late 70s early 80s rocking STYX, and later pop rock STYX... They kind of sold out, but only because the keyboard player and lead singer Dennis DeYound... he got really weird into Broadway/theater.. took the band in a weird direction until they broke up. I prefer this... the rocking STYX... Blue collar man, Suite madam blue, miss America, Queen of spades, crystal ball... some great songs... Great reaction. Thank you. 😊

This was the Kilroy Was Here tour. Their other singer, Dennis Deyoung came up with this whole idea of people wanting to destroy rock music, so that whole album and show was a presentation about that. Try " heavy metal poisoning" from that 1983 album , it's lyrics tell more of the story, and it's the best song on the album

Back a year later, commenting on this recommendation that I gave you guys, and the great reaction you did. Did you ever listen to the studio version? I have another recommendation by this great band for you. And the Vevo video will give you a live stage performance synched (somehow) with the official studio track. The song is "Too Much Time On My Hands". You could also check out the studio version of "Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)". Both are also vibes!

Please do investigate the history of the band if you desire to know the band because only doing random reactions do not do the band justice. If you desire to be honest and true, then please do be honest and true by using the tools within yourself to do so. I saw this band last summer and it wasn't because I could afford to do so. It was because it probably will be my only chance. I have known and loved this band from the beginning of my knowing of this band back in the 1900;s somewhere between 1968 until now. lol :) i AM NOT ONE TO TELL ANYONE WHAT TO DO.!!!!!~!!!!BLAH BLAH BLAH...... Explore and see for yourself is all i ask you to do. Compare notes and timelines and and and and and and and .... see your own experience and not what we ask you to see.
