They're called umpires and yes, it's at least possible the game wouldn't have been tied in the 9th. Hard to say for sure, of course, but if I was a Pirates fan I would be frustrated to say the least.

That was some brutally awful relief pitching by the Bucs. Definitely their Achilles heel. Ouch !

The Pirates bullpen IS the reason why they’re a below .500 team. The starting pitching is the best in the league (in terms of ERA & SO). The offense is average.

This is what Ben Cherington gets for sending Jose Hernandez down to Triple A for this bum named Ben Heller, who hasn't proven anything at the major league level. Keep your best pitchers on the roster, Cherington. It's not time for tryouts in June. It's the same thing that happened with Rowdy Tellez, who hasn't been good until recently. The Pirates keep holding out hope for certain players at the expense of winning ballgames.
