Ditto. As a kid, I was a helmet freak. Collected the gumball helmets; drew all the team helmets with my dad's markers. Loved how colorful the league was back then. Add in the old Buccaneers & Seahawks helmets....helmet Nirvana! Back before every team was so infatuated with black or dark, dark blue.

The best Brookshire story was when he was with the Eagles, Sonny Jurgenson broke curfew, he stole a cigar smoking Indian statue from a tobacco store, put the blanket over it and escaped out the window to see women. Brookshire plugged the Indian statue in to make it smoke, Sonny's room was full of smoke and was busted! Courtesy of Brookshire!😃

These are SO much fun to watch. This was when I first started actually WATCHING football with my older brother and his friends. I was 8 years old and they were around 14-16. I started off liking the Rams (Because I thought "Lamar Lundy" was a great name) but then I was informed in NO uncertain terms that we are a Bears family. Period. So this was my beginnings of a Bears fan. No one can call me a "bandwagon fan". I also remember when Sweetness was drafted, my brother said "Who the hell is THAT? Another wasted draft pick" He's come to his senses since. NOw highlights are not the same with no John Fusinta and no "drunken sailor" music.

The 1970's were not too kind to either the Eagles or the Giants. For most of the decade, the NFC East was a two team race(Dallas and Washington). Then both Philadelphia and New York turned things around in the 80's. And suddenly the Division became very crowded.

The downfield blocking was just atrocious in those days. Today high school teams are more skillful stretching out long passes and runs by clearing a nice path. The dirt .infields should have been outlawed forcing clubs to cover them up on Gameday or at least spread out the baseball schedules for cities with both NFL and MLB using the same venue. Houston had “AstroTurf” for gods sake how tough was it to simply roll out phony turf over a quarter of the field every other Sunday? Horse collar tackles hadn’t been outlawed as yet, you could get killed back them. Give me Steve Young you can keep Fran Tarkington. All this time I thought he was one of the greats.
