I really liked that vertical comp at the end of the video.

I don't care what you say I can see the fun in your videos you and your lady have making your videos and I need your inspiration. Thanks Man.

lol, thanks man, I appreciate it! I don't think what I meant to say really came out the way I intended. What I meant by being frustrated was mostly due to the high pressure I put on myself to always come out with a certain high level of images for the videos. Overall it was a great time being out there.

It’s fun to go out in challenging conditions to see what treasures can be found. It’s also fun to see what perspectives other photographers choose to convey in their surroundings. For at least some shots, I would probably be standing partially or fully in the river shooting from a lower angle. That might not have worked well with a 70-200 though. You got some nice shots - that vertical composition has some sweet light and reflections!

I like the vertical shot better because it emphasize the curving arches not just over the stream, but it is repeated in other areas. The focus is on that arch and the vertical Ness of the dark trees, not the brightly lit area to the left! I love Brittany's slow pan of the back-lit trees. Again, her videos really add to the story. BTW, please send some of that moisture to California!

The previous video had more images that appealed to my Fall Senses at the present time, the colors, light and compositions were amazing. In this video I loved the individual leaf images and the vertical river image at the end. Some days are just what you experienced...a beautiful day in a magical place, but few ‘portfolio images’ to be had. And that’s OK.

I prefer the vertical version of that shot by the creek. But my favorite images were the detail shots you took in the shade. The light was so harsh in most of the others. I prefer shooting woodland photography on cloudy days. We just had a cloud inversion over NYC, which almost never happens, and I got some of my best foliage shots ever.
@BrentHall2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I would have loved some clouds, but it was a complete and typical New Mexico blue bird day...Fog would have been even better, but I've gotten all of part of one day of fog here in the last 2+years, lol.

Hi Brent, I am planning to buy the R7. Can you help me understand how is the ISO performance in low light? how far can we push the ISO before it starts to show noise in the images?

Great video! I probably like the vertical better but love the light coming through on the left of the horizontal. Im going to southern Arizona in 2 weeks to bird and try to get changing color in the canyons, I hope it's not going to be too late. Will probably use 70-200 on R5. Thanks for sharing Brent.

It's funny you mentioned how fast the plants from the other video turned. I was watching this video and the colors looked muted for some reason, LOL. Good video, I really appreciate the forest wildlife/landscape videos, since here in South Florida we don't have creeks or rivers like that. I like the vertical for that shot, it makes the eye focus on the path of the creek.

If I understand correctly the "struggle" is related to the crop sensor increasing the apparent focal length of the lens. Would choosing a lens which gives the apparent focal length similar to a wide angle lens you would choose for the R5 (full frame sensor for example) or is there a limitation to the image quality when using a wider angle lens to compensate for the crop sensor? Looking forward to more R7 content as I currently have one.
@BrentHall2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, that didn't really come out the way I meant, lol. The struggle was just me trying to deal with the pressure I set on myself to capture a certain level of image, and on this outing I was struggling with finding what I considered good enough compositions and images. As a photographer KZbinr, I think I tend to place unrealistic expectations out of the level of images I need to get to include in every video, and it can sometimes stress me out if I feel like I didn't make it happen. The camera was fine. It did take me a minute to readjust to the crop factor, but it really wasn't a major issue for me, especially as I had the full range of focal lengths in my bag and could have switched at any point. It was more me struggling to find what I thought were good enough comps in that chaotic forest.

Looking forward to more R7 content, especially preferred settings for both wildlife and landscape. I notice you don’t often use cable releases for elimination of camera shake. Do you use the self timer function?

I don't ever use cable releases anymore. If I feel the need, I'll just use the internal 2 or 10 sec timer.

I have a hard time choosing but I think I will have to go with the vertical 🙂 By the way, was there a problem with the video? Compared to your previous video the behind the scenes in this one lacked detail and had a lot of noise in the shadows and on your dark clothes. Almost like it was filmed at very high ISO, but it was daylight and the R5 could handle higher ISO... doesn´t matter for the enjoyment of your video. I just got curious.
@BrentHall2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, we had many issues filming that video. I don't want to talk about it, lol. It shouldn't happen again though.

I thought all your stills were damn good, I liked both of the shots with the arch over the water and backlighting, actually it looked like there was an arch in the horizontal shot on the left over that clearing. Would it really matter what camera you are using, assuming it has reasonable quality of glass and sensor? In my humble opinion photography relies on what I term the 3 Cs: Content, Composition and Competence (in the equipment). Nothing in that suggests brand, sensor size or camera dimension. Too much Instagram style product promoting is the bane of photography IMHO.

Looks like it was a better day for closeup / macro photography anyway, so good thing you took the 70-200! Lots of nice flora closeups!

You got some nice images. I liked the last image in vertical more. I bought my R7 for wildlife mostly. I have taken a few landscape shots and have been happy with what I have gotten but the reduced FOV doesn't generally aide in landscape.
